What programming language YOU should learn based off of your interests. 👨‍💻 The world of technology is a scary place. Instead of mindlessly doing tutorials, I try and figure out the best starting spot for you to move ahead on your coding journey. Note, if you have already started learning a language, you probably shouldn't switch 🙏.

My name is Lewis Menelaws, I am a 27 year old software engineer who has a software agency in Ontario, Canada. I have been programming professionally for 5-6 years and am looking to help inspire you to learn code :)

Also a note to beginners, most programming languages will be the same logic wise so as long as you can get good at one lsngusge, youll be good at algorithmic thinking which will make learning new languages super easy

Thanks!
I love the content, as a 35 year old wanting to get into the tech field, I wanted some clear answers, and you did just that.
Value for value.

Just like you I started with JS and Python, mostly because Python lets me focus on the logic and problem solving, rather than spending hours or even days trying to fix syntax errors.

This is EXACTLY the type of video I was looking for when searching "Which Programming language to learn." When learning coding you should ideally know your interests/future career goals before learning any random programming language.
But generally I know since my interests is in Blender, Game Dev and making 3D websites; I narrowed it down to Blender Python API, C# (Unity) and ThreeJS(JavaScript).
Already have some coding knowledge of C++, HTML and CSS. So hopefully I speed run thru my learning goals

it awesome that you mentioned c++ in the backend category people really downplay the insane performance it can offer and that it's literally powering some of the biggest most complex web services in the world like Google search Google maps etc... not to mention it's speed is outta this world

It would be pretty cool to know salaries for each one of those, and a little bit more deep into what they actually do!

As a machinist I learned to program with g-code and liked it so much I'm going back to school in software development.

I work in data analytics and learned R due to that being what my work used, however we are moving more to using python now. From my experience they are very similar in a lot of ways and if you know one, you will be able to easily pick up the other. However i agree that it would make more sense to start with Python in the first instance. It will get you familiar with the basic principles and logic for coding and build skills which are transferable to other languages. Python is very well documented and there is plenty of help out there for any problems you encounter.

i havent completely done this myself so its just an idea, but i think its ideal to know the basics of multiple language, while being great at one.
because then you can work on multiple types of projects, and more easily get the hang of something new for each one, but its easier to remember everything for the specialized type cuz thats the only one you really focus on.

yes, its easier to forget parts of the other languages when you havent used them in a while, but you can do many more things that could come in handy.
works kinda like learning multiple irl languages, as they each follow different rules and vocabulary

Very nice, that you do big-size videos, that really interesting. So sad, that you're not popular in this type of content (videos over than 1 minute), but your fans are very glad to have content like these 😊

I would have liked to watch a video like this when I was starting in the programming field. I learned with Pascal the basics and fundamentals then I moved to PHP and some Vanilla Javascript and jQuery doing full-stack, then I moved to Java and here I am doing backend stuff. But I always have the feeling I would have preferred to learn low-level coding with C++ and so on.

As a web developer my advices would be:
1. Do not go for Full Stack at the beginning
2. If your focus is Frontend learn js but you still need to learn DSA and some other programming style as well
3. If your focus is not frontend never go for js at the beginning, you can learn it later.

if you are a statistician or a person with an interest in statistics looking to learn data science, I’d suggest u to look into R rather than python.
