tip for playing this --- stagger the melody note a little later than the bass note, this helps separate the harmony and melody parts. Check out John Williams' performances, he does it in a very exaggerated way, and sounds good.

For some people their absolute guitar masterpiece might be "Clair de Lune", but for me "Cavatina" is the one masterpiece that I absolutely enjoy and appreciate I guess mainly because of its bittersweet and melodramatic kind of melody that touches one's inner-senses which was also a perfect themesong that they use in the movie "The Deer Hunter" and popularized by none other than John Williams from a previous transcription of Stanley Myers...!!!

I learned this piece years ago, and this video has inspired me to relearn it. The main challenge is the presence of so many barres, for which you need to develop adequate and sustainable strength.

I was lucky to start learning playing classical guitar at the age of 10 and I've learned Cavatina a while ago. I can confirm the fingering used in this tutorial is pretty accurate to John Williams. I love to play John Williams version of Cavatina which is undoubtedly the best guitar adaptation. This is obviously not for beginners but rather experienced players if you really want to express the whole feeling of it. My best advice is practice practice practice. I had a thumb and ring finger fracture in a stupid incident and I thought I could never play again as my finger turned too stiff, though I never gave up like a rubber band I practice, practice and practice stretching to gain back fingers flexibility. If I could do it then I wouldn't see why nobody could. Remember don't burn the steps, patience and determination are the main key ingredients and will pay off over time😉

Beautiful concise lesson... 1) Play it right through for advanced players... 2) Slow it down with metronome, sheet music and clear fingering for moderate and beginners... SO MANY lessons from others are painfully slow with "put finger here" "do this" "do that" Please, not everyone is that SLOW... ALL OTHER YouTubers... THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE!!!!

I am an intermediate player. It took me years to learn to play this piece when I was a beginner. I did not play the piece for some time and lost it of course. Hi SkyGuitar, Thanks for the Guitar Lesson for Cavatina, its a song that i always wanted to learn, and seeing your detailed tutorial of the song allowed me to learn it over a couple of weeks. Although i did not played it 😉well, it already filled me with joy playing this song from start to finish. :D.
