People forget how terrible XP was at the time it was released on sub-par hardware (eg. 64 MB RAM), compared to Windows 98. But within a few years hardware had vastly improved and it no longer mattered.

I've changed my XP when windows 10 was released. And now in 2019 I'm back on a windows 95 laptop having fun screwing with MS-DOS. Go figure.

I generally don't believe in conspiracy theories, and I don't know what to think about this one either. But what I do know is that I'm completely fed up with how huge, bloated, and wasteful Windows has become. It's absolutely ridiculous. What's the point of having a brand new computer with gigabytes of RAM, a terrabyte hard drive, etc, if the operating system is going to use it all?? The operating system is just supposed to a bare bones system, just enough to make the computer work. If you want fancy, cutesy little graphics, that's what *programs* are for! I honestly wish Microsoft would make a Windows that had a super simple interface like maybe Windows 2000, but which is compatible with new hardware. Actually, Windows 2000 is my favorite OS and I still have an old desktop computer running it, which I use for programming. It's faster than my new laptop running Windows 10! The old desktop boots up in just a few seconds, but the laptop takes forever!

Old computers was deliberately shipped with minimum ram installed for the operating system ..but once you installed anything else you would find you have no more ram ..hence slow ! ..and you had to upgrade.

I've no doubt Vista was designed with Moore's Law in mind, with the expectation that hardware would improve and cost less. No conspiracy there.

Look, it's incredible anyone would believe MS's official story on anything - nothing in their track record suggests that they have the customer's best experience anywhere in their priority list, not even as a last point - you need a lot of belief and faith to hold to the opinion that they do their best. This is true of all mega corporations. So let's start there, shall we?

a lot of educated people talk alot about things they've never experienced like vista

So basically it’s the same thing they’re doing with Windows 11?

I think Windows vista was too advanced for PCs at that time

I wouldn't say it was designed to be, it was just very heavy on GPU, which just wasn't a thing back then UNLESS you had a decent machine with a discrete GPU (which wasn't the norm; power users & "gamers")

Windows Vista wasn't slow when run on decent hardware for the time.  Trying to upgrade a 2002 Willamette Pentium IV Dell, however, probably wasn't going to provide a good experience.

Absolutely nothing, and I mean NOTHING, can beat Windows Vista.
