A famine of hearing the words of the LORD?

“The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign LORD, “when I will send a famine through the land— not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD. People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the LORD, but they will not find it. —Amos 8:11

Dear Church leaders/elders/pastors,

"...if one's appeal for moving on with the Lord seems to people to involve their having to move away from this or that or some other thing, then there is warfare; which shows that Satan in his eternal campaign of idolatry, has got a footing amongst Christians in relation to things which take the place of the Lord Himself. And you find, if you are spiritually sensitive, that you are not just encountering the established institutions, but you are encountering a terrific spiritual force."

The Lord is speaking today if you can hear it. He does nothing except first revealing His plans to His prophets. I don’t see how that has changed in the New Covenant era. We see it in Acts - with both Phillip’s daughters and in Agabus’ binding of Paul to signify his awaiting death. I think the real question to ask ourselves is ‘do we have ears to hear and do we have eyes to see?’
