A famine of hearing the words of the LORD?

“The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign LORD, “when I will send a famine through the land— not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD. People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the LORD, but they will not find it. —Amos 8:11

The Lord is speaking today if you can hear it. He does nothing except first revealing His plans to His prophets. I don’t see how that has changed in the New Covenant era. We see it in Acts - with both Phillip’s daughters and in Agabus’ binding of Paul to signify his awaiting death. I think the real question to ask ourselves is ‘do we have ears to hear and do we have eyes to see?’
