Fun fact: in one episode of nichijou, there was a one off gag where the principal comes across a wara ningyou (literally translates to "straw doll"). Since these straw dolls are often used in curses, he freaks out. When asked to open the doll, he finds natto inside.

It's not commonly eaten where I live, but I saw it a lot online and thought it looked good. I went to a grocery store with a lot of food from different countries, mostly east Asian stuff, and had some there. I found the smell a little intimidating and was worried I wouldn't like it, but with some rice and egg it was really good!
