Live a plain and simple life. Being content with food clothing and shelter and living in the present moment will start you on the way to peaceful living.

Silence of the inner world is the passage towards greater wisdom.
When the mind is calm, the consciousness can grow.

People keep bugging me why I don't get my drivers licence. Well, I don't need it, don't need a car, don't need the payments, don't want to drive people around, don't want to be frustrated with other drivers, bad roads, tickets and pigeon shitstains.

They asked me and it was a half a decade ago, why I don't have a mobile phone (I have now as living without it is more troubles nowadays). I didn't want it, because I enjoyed my time without being harrassed with phonecalls and messages.

Before you assume I'm an eccentric old guy, I'm not. I haven't had a mobile from age 16 to 22. I'm 27 now and life is very good.

1. Don't stand on your tip toes.
2. Let softness overcome the hard.
3. Appreciate uselessness.
4. Don't strive, but flow along.

Thank you Einzelganger :)

Wow! Thank you! This is very helpful. I was struggling with feeling “useless” and hating myself for it. Just being an introvert and like to sit by myself and ponder deeply about things has made me feel lonely and out of place in this modern world. This video made me feel like i am not doing anything wrong nor am I abnormal.

The TAO was never meant for Religion.
Once you turn the TAO into a Religion, it's no longer the TAO.

Thank you so much for this. I'm recovering from a coma and extensive brain damage, and for over a year, feeling useless is just an understatement. Your video changed my perspective. I'm going to think of my current situation as more of a 'gain' now.

"uselessness can be very useful"

This is quite true. If everything thinks you're useful, they will come to you by default and they will think you will solve everything. When you cannot meet their ever-growing expectations, then they become disappointed. This is the same in sales. You underpromise and overdeliver. Do this, and you will gain clients. Do the reverse, you will lose clients.

This is so much beyond my humble capacity of understanding. But I'm doing my best to learn.

"Eat merely to relive your hunger, drink merely to relieve your thirst, dress merely to keep out the cold, house yourself merely as protection against personal discomfort." -Seneca

Once again great video! You will have to tell me one of these days how you create your thumbnails. Some of the best I've seen.

All my life I have been rushing and striving, it's time to stop and realize that there is more to life. Thank you for this realization.

5:40 after I stopped playing the violin as a kid, I remember always being told that I could’ve been a master at my age or how I’m not productive like my other relatives who could afford clubs and sports.

A part of me saw the beauty in being seen as the “useless” scapegoat, because I pioneered my interest in creativity and science: writing, designing, forensics/mortuary science, reading, drawing and editing.

All are which I find myself always gravitating towards. As I grew up, many began to exploit this because I was now “exceptional” after receiving rewards and whatnot from the work and effort I’ve put in.

I’ve learned that for most who rush in life, they silence their inner voice and expect others to do the same. Ive learned to listen to mines and ignore judgement which doesn’t provide much benefit

Life is really simple, but men insist on making it complicated.

As chapter 67 in the Tao says, remember your three great strengths: simplicity, patience, and compassion. These are your greatest treasure.
