Joan Baez is an American folk singer and songwriter known for her distinctive vocal style and her strong political activism. She rose to prominence in the 1960s, becoming a prominent figure in the folk music revival and a powerful voice for social justice. Baez has been a vocal advocate for numerous causes, including civil rights, anti-war movements, and human rights.

The Smothers Brothers

The Smothers Brothers, Tom and Dick, are one of the most iconic comedy duos in the history of television. Tom and Dick began performing as a duo in the late 1950s, playing in coffeehouses and clubs in San Francisco. Their act consisted of music, comedy, and witty banter, which quickly gained them a following.

The Smothers Brothers became a household name in the late 1960s with their variety show, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. The show was groundbreaking in its approach to comedy, pushing the boundaries with political satire and social commentary. The show also featured up-and-coming musical acts, including The Doors and The Who, and introduced the world to comedians like Steve Martin and George Carlin.

The Smothers Brothers' irreverent style has made them a beloved and enduring force in American comedy.

There was never a folk singer with a voice as beautiful as that of Joan Baez. Thank you for this look back.

What an extraordinary voice.
We have vinyl records our grandparents had in their youth. Our youngest favorites are the Joan Baez albums.

At 71, I am still and always have been in awe of Joan. That vibrato in her voice is simply angelic.

From the way this was originally so horribly censored and mangled by the network (which the brothers had demonstrated some of the CBS network edits for when it later aired on E) to this beautiful full performance which was never originally aired in its entirety… let me just say this is really a beautiful thing to watch! Thank you so much for making it available to anyone and everyone on YouTube!! it’s a beautiful restoration!! Thank you Joan, Tommy and Dickie for everything!! ❤️❤️❤️

This woman is a poem. I know she's older now, but I think she'll eternally be a treasure.

The couple I babysat for in the early 60’s had many of her albums and I listened to them, along with PP&M and a few others. I fell in love with Joan Baez’s music at about age 14! I’m now 73 and this is a true gift 💝! (I’m still friends with the people I babysat for way back then!)

At 81 I have seen my share of life, and this is the best voice the 1960s produced.

Love this Smothers Brothers video, remember seeing it back in '69. I just wrote a reflection poem about Joan Baez a week or two ago. I'm 75 years old and a lifelong poetry writer of thousands. I've recently started a series on people I respect and love from my teenage, 20s, and younger years. Joan Baez was one of the very first.

I wrote to dear sweet Mimi and told her how her sister's music saved my sanity when I was in the air force in the 60s. She was kind enough to answer me. RIP Mimi

The conviction, honesty, bravery and intelligence of Joan Baez and The Smothers Brothers renders my insomnia a small price to pay. Thanks for posting this.

My son told me last week when he was young he played one of my albums of Joan and thought she sang like an Angel. He has a great appreciation of her wonderful ballads!

I first heard Joan sing back in the early sixties. I have loved her singing ever since. Not only is her singing great but also is the values for which she stands.
