3D Printing often has me exclaiming (to no one in particular) “What a time to be alive!”. This is exactly what happened when I pulled the 12 gear ‘Flower’ off the bed, and after a little wiggling and jiggling had a fully functional gear chain. I didn’t need to assemble anything- no C-clamps required (although I do like C-clamps).

It’s easy to take things for granted. Sometimes I find myself wishing I was able to print faster. But then I remind myself how lucky it is to be born at a time where we have technology like this at our fingertips. A gear assembly, manufactured on chain…what a time to be alive.

Try a double stacked planetary gearset. They are super neat. Thats what most heavy equipment uses for the final drives to convert the high speed low torque from the hydraulic motors to a lower speed, big torque to turn the huge wheels and tires/tracks. It is a super cool piece of engineering to see in action.
