Nietzsche meant we have killed God, we cannot live the way we do if we actually believed in God. We would not lie, cheat, steal, from our neighbors for earthly gain if we actually believed that God would hold us accountable for our misdeeds.

"Thus spoke the devil to me, once on a time: 'Even God has his hell: it is his love for man.' \ And lately, did I hear him say these words: 'God is dead: of his pity for man has God died.'" --Friedrich Nietzsche, "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" (1892)

Max Stirner “The Unique and Its Property “, 1844/(2017 Landstreicher translation) preceded Nietzsche and his mental breakdown started then.

The Christian ideal would be demolished by an up and coming materialistic rational worldview and “everything would be permitted.” Nietzsche thought that the his “elite higher natured man” could establish his own values and much of his writing was dedicated to this but he was fundamentally and ambitiously incorrect which maybe helped us in the present day more than if he was a defender of the Judeo Christian ethics?

Speaking respectfully, I think the professor could have been a little more careful framing of the issue.

Once they discover that Hebrew Cosmology is true this phrase will be impossible. Moses knew it and that's good enough for me.
