Join Jaimie as she prepares a large batch of various beans for the pantry. Canned beans are so much easier to use for cooking. Cooking beans on demand requires much more time and energy to prepare.

The store where I get most of my seeds and starter plants for the garden also sells groceries. A lot of their store brand inventory in the grocery department is packaged in standard mason jars. Whenever I empty one of their jars I always wash it out and save it for future use. What attracted me to click on this video was the picture of the beans on the plate. The plate brought back childhood memories because my grandmother had that same pattern with the green flowers.

Now that's what I am talking about!  For the time that you will save in the future it was a day well spent. WELL DONE. :-)

I too do beans during the winter months.  It is so handy to just grab them and heat them up for a quick meal.  When we have left over ham at easter I use that and my canned northern beans to make a wonderful hearty soup.  Love the videos keep them up.  Best wishes.

Great idea! I was born, raised and still homestead in the Beautiful Ozark Mountains not far from the mighty Buffalo River (N.W.Arkansas) Cooking beans on the wood stove has always been a favorite meal during the winter because they cook slow which gives them a thicker soup  . I personally have never had trouble cooking them over wood - we never really paid much attention to temp etc we just added more water if needed and by the  time the end of the day rolled around they were nice and tender <3 even cooked cornbread the same way...Yummm!

Love it! When I can meat, if there is any room left in the canner, I will grab some dry beans (usually pinto) and measure a heaping 1/3rd cup into a pint sized jar. Add some onions or garlic (or both!) and fill to the line with water. Since meat also takes a long time at pressure, it is a great match. It ensures your canner is always full so you are getting the most use out of the resources AND it really is wonderful to pop open a ready made jar of beans. The beans are thoroughly cooked (and not mushy!). Sometimes there are some jars that will have what looks to be 'dry' beans at the top but they are always done and delicious! I learned the trick from an ebook I read and it has really paid off. Love your videos!

A method I've come to prefer is to skip the presoak and put sorted and washed beans in jars with boiling water.  I put just under 1 cup of dry beans in a quart jar.

Thanks for the vid and keep up the good work!

Thank you for all of your great informational videos!!
Something that works great on beans is a homemade solar box oven. As long as it is sunny it won't matter what the outdoor temps are and it will slow cook for the entire day.

I think the Walmart brand pint jars are smaller than ball! I get 9 ball pint jars to my smaller pot and 10 pint Walmart jars! Great video thank you!

I was hoping for the whole process. Like taking the beans out of the fridge. Putting it in the jars. Putting them in the canned and then putting it on the fire. Taking it off. Segments would be fine but I really would rather see the whole process. Thanks for the video

Great video, definitely makes food preparation with beans a lot easier!! One alternative that I use is using a pressure cooker for my dried beans. They can be picked up pretty cheap and can cook delicious beans from dry to soft and smooth in about an hour. I learned to do this in Brazil where many a family will prepare beans in their pressure pot every day on their wood stove too. Through some meat of whatever you want in there during the cooking process and the flavors all intermix under the pressure too, delicious just thinking about it!!
