The Crusades were not necessary. Jews, Christians, and Muslims lived together without much hassle.

The Muslims considered the Jews and Christians as "People of the Book" and lived with them without stepping on toes.

Even today, a cathedral from olden days is not desecrated, but it is used as a place for prayers in congregation by the Muslims. This cathedral is in Damascus and even now the old basin used for baptism still exists in good condition. The most interesting monument inside this cathedral is the grave of John the Baptist !!

I have gone there during the course of pilgrimage tour of Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Saudi Arabia.
