Also, the War Machine armor has noticeable wear & tear on it, from frequent use.
Whereas Tony, the multibillionaire, is constantly upgrading & building new suits, so he doesn't leave the crib without a fresh one.

War Machine is a one man army. Iron man is more like seal team six. The point of war machine is to essentially get the US government off Tony's back about giving up the technology. Tony also knows he can only pack so much into 1 suit(until nano tech). So by building war machine as a front-line brawler with crowd control, Tony can remain nimble and fine-tuned.

Iron man = Bullet with Your Name on it.

I also think it’s because the difference in between the suit design Tony probably used lighter alloys, and he slicked down his suit a bit more the war machine suit is bulkier, and I think he used to heavier materials for it.
