House impeachment managers and President Trump’s lawyers have concluded their opening arguments in the Senate. The impeachment trial is now in the question period for both sides, when senators submit questions in writing to Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. The chief justice will read questions out loud, alternating between the majority and minority for up to eight hours.

Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son.

Trump's acquittal will serve as a warning to future Houses. Do not rush Impeachment (i.e. 45 days) to meet an arbitrary deadline without bothering to utilize the courts for subpoenas. Then insist Senate obtain witnesses. Otherwise, this will happen with every president and different House. Approving House members s/b voted out.

Almost all questions directed at the house managers were not answered. They would say they didn’t know and moved into a different conversation. That’s called avoiding the question. It’s a sure sign of contempt.

I don't get it though. Like if you're innocent why should it matter if the witnesses speak or not? If anything if they speak and you're innocent all they have to say is "none of what the Democrats are saying is true" but when you deny the witnesses from speaking of course it looks sketchy. It just feels like common sense. If you're innocent let them speak why worry?

This is why education is so important because the President's defense team is far more knowledgeable about the the Constitution and how our government works. By having the ability to recall events, timelines, cases and articulate their thoughts without relying on notes or video clips. The House managers had some very good moments but ultimately relied to much on emotions, power point and video clips.
