How likely are you to live a long life, on a scale of one to 10?
A 2011 study by Brazilian scientists found that the sit to stand test is a great predictor of longevity. It's also a fabulous party piece!
This simple test test demonstrates your ability to go from a standing to a seated position (on your bum with legs crossed) and then back up to standing again — *without* using your hands, elbows, knees etc.
The sit to stand test shows how:
🦵 Strong your muscles are
🤸 Mobile your joints are
🧍♀️ Good your balance and coordination skills are

How To Do Sit To Stand Test
1️⃣ Take off your shoes and start in a standing position.
2️⃣ Start with 10 points.
3️⃣ Slowly bring yourself down to sit on the floor in a cross-legged position.
4️⃣ Deduct 1 point every time you use a hand, elbow or knee on the floor to assist you.
5️⃣ Now, from sitting, bring yourself back up to standing.
6️⃣ Again, take away 1 point each time you need to use a hand, elbow or knee to help you up.
🏆 A top score of 8-10 indicates you have a good chance of living a long and healthy life.
🥈 If you score 6-7, you're 2 x more likely than the top scorers to have a shorter life.
🥉 Scoring 3-5 means you're 3.5 x times more likely than the top scorers to have a shorter life.
If you score low, the good news is you can improve your score by doing exercise that improves your strength, mobility and balance… like Pilates 😉.
