I have the 220j and it's perfect for my intended purpose for it. Longer term cold storage of my PC monthly backups. I put in a couple of 6TB drive, RAID 1'ed them, power it up once a month and dump those folders that I don't want to loose. Along with doing the same to a rotating USB drive. My 918+ is there for all the fun stuff...

For what do i need more than 2 Gigabit lan ports? The Harddrive cant read more than 250 megabytes per second. The bottleneck is the HDD.

Thanks for the info! I was looking at the DS218 but now I think ill save a bit extra for the DS720+ I'd like to futureproof myself a bit with this. It can be confusing. Ive build a few PC's but never dipped my toe in NAS

I went from single NAS (WD) to single Synology 120j Loving it but now want a two bay as i didnt see these super helpful videos and hadnt realised there was such a massive confusing range

Just bought a DS220j for network file storage - just accessed by 2 people for saving quotes and images. Very impressed! One question I cannot seem to find an answer for is would installing SSD drives improve perceptual speed and reliability? New to all this NAS stuff so a newbie on this technology.

Did Plex ever fix the diver issue for transcoding on these Synology NAS devices?

I have a 920+ and transcoding HEVC pins my CPU at 35% but the video buffers constantly.
DSM7.0 doesn't allow me to edit the configuration file per your previous videos.

Synology suggests 1GB to run DSM 7. Maybe there will be new entry models at the end of this year.

How true is that the next batch of 2 bay Synology will have 10GbE? Rumor has that the new DS222+ will come ready with a 10GbE.

Awesome video as always. A question you (or anyone else on here) could hopefully answer. I have been thinking about getting the DS720 or DS220 as a live backup device for my DS1817+. The DS1817+ currently has a 10GbE connection. Is it possible to get the bandwidth of two 1Gbe network ports bonded when backing from one Synology (10GbE) to another Synology (2x 1GbE)? I really wish Synology would add at least 2.5GbE ports, but probably shouldn't hold my breath for any 2bay updates that would.

Have got a 220j on a SHR set up. Thinking of looking into getting a used 4 bay unit. Would a three year old 918+ offer a good progression ? Mainly use 220j for Plex server and document back ups. Thx.

I bought 2 Kingston 1TB A2000 M.2 2280 Nvme for ssd caching and see that it is compatible on another synology nas but work on my 720+, do you know if these can continue to work or do i need to return them to get the synology 800GB (2)
