I was fascinated by snakes at a very young age and begged my parents for one as a pet, they never let me have one and as much as that was heartbreaking, knowing everything that I know now about taking care of them.... There's no way that I would have given one the right kind of setup or have quality husbandry practices

And I don't enjoy keeping them any less in my mid thirties than I would have as an 8-year-old kid, so ultimately it's for the better

It's surprising to me that milk snakes aren't more popular. I wonder if they are more popular in other countries. The trends with reptile popularity are really interesting to me. Like how sometimes an animal will be crazy popular in one country, but not popular at all in another, despite being perfectly legal in both. I wish i knew more about what the reptile community is like in different countries. Thatd make a cool video series if someone could figure out how to go about it.

I have a ball python, I got him because I have small kids and he’s docile. I’ve been interested in getting a boa but I need more research on dwarf species but I really love idea of having several species of snakes and when my ball python decides not to eat I have a boa who won’t be as dramatic when it comes to dinner 😂

Have had some cornsnakes but got my BCI some days ago. Just as you say cornsnakes are great but missing the size

I think a corn snake is the perfect first snake. Specially for a kid, I would leave Boas for the second snake., funny thing I was always a bit wary of boas. I had this idea that they were this hard to keep bitey monsters. Now I wish I had gotten into Boas earlier.

The other north American rat snakes are great. I have some eastern black rat snakes, and they are just as docile as the cornsnakes, and just as hardy, but they can get a foot longer easily, or even bigger. I wanted to get a boa to fill that larger snake itch, but I learned about eastern black rat snakes, and that fills that roll for me. they are not too much bigger, but they can really stretch out and be impressive.

also it was in the news last year that someone at a park saw a giant python that must have escaped, but turns out it was just a wild rat snake that was a good size. The news channels that covered it had to make updates saying that it was a wild common rat snake, and that is just how big they get. lol Any snake big enough to cause a panic on the news is plenty big enough to be impressive in my book.
