Chanda Prescod-Weinstein | The Disordered Cosmos
Chanda Prescod-Weinstein is both an Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy and a Core Faculty Member in Women's and Gender Studies at the University of New Hampshire. Dr. Prescod-Weinstein's research has focused on various topics in cosmology and theoretical physics, including the axion as a dark matter candidate, inflation, and classical and quantum fields in the early universe.

She recently published The Disordered Cosmos, A Journey into Dark Matter, Spacetime, and Dreams Deferred, where she shares her love for physics, from the Standard Model of Particle Physics and what lies beyond it, to the physics of melanin in skin, to the latest theories of dark matter — all with a new spin informed by history, politics, and the wisdom of Star Trek.
Her vision of the cosmos is vibrant, buoyantly non-traditional, and grounded in Black feminist traditions. Prescod-Weinstein lays out a bold new approach to science and society that begins with the belief that we all have a fundamental right to know and love the night sky. The Disordered Cosmos dreams into existence a world that allows everyone to experience and understand the wonders of the universe.

Anders Sandberg | Bringing Ethics to Outer Space
Anders Sandberg has a background in computer science and neuroscience, but is since 2006 a member of the Faculty of Philosophy at University of Oxford. He is also a Foresight Research Fellow in Philosophy.
Anders Sandberg's research centres on societal and ethical issues surrounding human enhancement and new technology, as well as estimating the capabilities and underlying science of future technologies. Topics of particular interest include enhancement of cognition, cognitive biases, technology-enabled collective intelligence, neuroethics and public policy. He has worked on this within the EU project ENHANCE, where he also was responsible for public outreach and online presence. Besides scientific publications in neuroscience, ethics and future studies he has also participated in the public debate about human enhancement internationally.

Exceptional and enlightening talk. Chanda Prescod-Weinstein's insights and experiences add lots to our exploration of the topic of ethics within the sciences. Thank you Foresight Institute for hosting this and a huge thank you to the two guest speakers for sharing your time, thoughts, and experiences with us.🌸

At least we are aware that we are in the driver's seat of how mankind is to steer going forward.

Chanda doesn’t strike me as intellectually honest I’m sorry to say. I had to skip her parts.

@6:00 philosophers will be the last to figure out what "high value" means. Ordinary people will decide on that long before academics in ivory towers of digital light eventually agree with the plebs.
