Roger Penrose - Bridging Consciousness, Quantum Physics & The Universe

Roger Penrose is a renowned mathematician and physicist who has made significant contributions to the fields of quantum physics, cosmology, and the study of the mind. In his lecture titled "Bridging Consciousness, Quantum Physics & The Universe," Penrose discusses the intersection of these three fields and proposes a new theory of consciousness that is grounded in the principles of quantum mechanics.

At the heart of Penrose's theory is the idea that consciousness arises from the collapse of quantum wave functions in the brain. According to Penrose, this collapse creates a fundamental connection between the macroscopic world of human experience and the microscopic world of quantum physics. He argues that this connection is responsible for the emergence of consciousness as we know it.

Throughout his lecture, Roger Penrose draws on examples from mathematics, physics, and neuroscience to support his arguments. He also delves into the concept of the "unconscious mind" and how it relates to his theory of consciousness.

Overall, Roger Penrose's lecture provides a thought-provoking exploration of the nature of consciousness and its relationship to the quantum world and the universe at large. His ideas challenge traditional assumptions about the mind and offer a new perspective on the mysteries of human experience.

It is refreshing to hear someone of Sir Roger's status talk about QE and our consciousness. I have been fascinated by this concept for several years. My guess (add emphasis) is that consciousness goes beyond our brain. With QE it is conceivable that brains connect in some fashion with each other. This can be extrapolated in many interesting directions. 🐦 🐦 🐦

The neuronal structure of the brain, with its filaments, pathways, connecting nuerons, reminds me of the cosmic web connecting the galaxies of the universe! We have yet to discover what that really is, how it actually works. The quantum physics world might well give us great insight into how consciousness comes into being, the ideas of Roger Penrose are incredibly interesting! Researching AI might enable us to make new, groundbreaking, scientific discoveries, in the field of neuroscience, and also cosmology.

My cerebellum was nicked while undergoing brain 🧠 surgery 😳 Prior to this medical emergency, my personality was "frozen" for lack of a better description. I was an unconscious workaholic. I never had a sense of humor. Following recovery from brain surgery, my personality changed. Was it the anesthesia or the nicked cerebellum that brought me out of a delusional (?) state of being? After waking up 6 - 8 weeks later, I could laugh for seemingly the first time in my life. The laughter was inflated in the beginning, yet over time ⏲️ it normalized.
Now, I own the capacity to giggle and laugh easily. ❤ Tell me why, please.

On this 2023 Earth Day, the seed of our beloved and venerable Professor Penrose is already the beautiful Hammeroff hope's tree.

And this is my inner happiness by hugging my parents again so they can continue their journey in peace.

IISA is my tribute to you, Prof. Penrose.

I underwent psychic training at Berkeley Psychic Institute in the late 1980s.
I suggest the researchers in this area take that psychic training very seriously.

I recently had surgery on my wrist and when the doctor asked me if I had any questions I just laughed. And then proceeded to ask him exactly how he shuts off my consciousness and then turns is back on again. I asked what part of the brain if affects. We talked for 30 minutes. It was fascinating.

This is very old research (1990s) - whilst I really love the idea of Orch-OR, Max Tegmark showed the flaws in the quantum theory, and Penrose accepted that the Penrose-Hameroff model of Orch-OR was not valid.

However, we would be idiots to assume that the human body does not interact with the universe at a quantum level. Our eyes, for example, can detect a single photon, which in itself is a quantum package. It has been shown that our noses use quantum probability to detect and identify smells - so why _shouldn't_ consciousness be a product of quantum physics? And why shouldn't we interact with the universe at a quantum level?

Consciousness is not an entity by itself although it appears to be.. it’s a series of events happening faster than speed of light that makes it look like an entity by itself.., abhidharma in Buddhism explains this in detail..

Brain - Mind

Our brain works on a dualistic basis:
usually consciousness and rarely subconsciousness.

1 – Consciousness of the brain works on various
electromagnetic energy fields (alpha, beta, . . . etc.)
An electroencephalogram (EEG) can record this ''normal logical'' electrical
activity of the brain (brain works as computer - "Turing Machine")
2 – Subconsciousness is process on micro-quantum-level
(brain suddenly takes a new decision / action - "eureka")
The reason of unconscious process is quantum particle .
Suggestion:
According to the Pauli Exclusion Principle, only one (1) electron
can manage an atom, molecule, cell, brain.

a) Quantum process appears when all atoms of brain are
in Bose-Einstein state (superfluidity).
b) Then the electron gains strength to ''superconductivity'' and
can change the old brain's program to a new decision - "eureka".
New decision is result of - a "Self-quantum particle".
c) After a short moment- "eureka" the brain again works like a computer.
(but according to a new program)

''The laws of quantum mechanics itself cannot be formulated ...
without recourse to the concept of consciousness.''

Think in terms of scale. It’s not just quantum scale.

with quantum phenomenon going back to hot dense state of big bang, how did cosmos / universe maintain conditions for quantum wave function when temperature was astronomically higher?

What if the universe were better explained by four unimensions rather than three dimensions? Unimensions could be arranged tetrahedrally to describe all of space. Time is no longer needed to describe a space/time continuum. Time could be our perception of space as a result of quantum consciousness. We would have only to accept that there is no moving back and forth in space, but that space could be adequately described in terms moving continually forward.

What establishes the difference between the mechanism responsible for consciousness and what it's conscious of? Is it material? That's a philosophical concept. Also, what is dreaming and imagining? What is the inner sense?

could there be awareness of consciousness? there is consciousness when asleep or even dead, awareness of it when awake while alive?

Still so much to understand in the Universe. The brain is fantastic, but at the same time very simple. I belong to the group that think consciousness is a result of computation, memory and a feedback loop. But hey, I'm not a scientist 😉

Well, this is interesting. Imagine consciousness trying to understand itself, whoda thunkit? One would think that consciousness would know what it is without having to stumble through equations, models, and a myriad of what ifs. It's sort of like the forest trying to understand what a tree is...

Quantum phenomenon affects plants photosynthesis which is also a biological element. Are they not some biological activities like heat and wet environment that could collapse the function. I need help in this one

How bizarre that as humans and with all our knowledge we can create complex things, but nowhere near as complex as something that appeared by chance (our brains).

Like imagine if a particle accellerator appeared from nothing, that would be weird and unlikely but its still not as complex as our brains, which were even more unlikely.

The process to replicate it seems so simple as well, just a sperm and an egg. Not some precise lab experiment, just something two people can do. Whatever the origins of consciousness and the universe are, they must be so unbelievably strange they're beyond comprehension.

Every part of the body
Has its own psychology and brain
And is a twenty four hour interpreter
By changing cellular memory
You change the psychology
Of the body
Memory is not only something that we store in some mysterious way in our brains. Even in our brain a huge percentage of memory is sub-conscious or completely unconscious.only a small percentage of our overall brain memory is conscious, meaning if we make an effort we can remember.it’s is said this conscious part includes not more than 10 percent of our experiences.
Seperate from that, another much more important part of our memory is stored in our bodies. Each muscly, each organ, each cell, each molecule, each atom and smaller has its own memory-memory in the sense that certain experiences we go through will have their very specific and own effect and imprint in the bodies biochemistry .
Each of our emotions, whether negative or positive, causes the release of a particular composition of hormones, enzymes or other biochemical fluids.
Imagine the body as being a computer and the experiences that we have as creating a computer program that runs on the computer.

A.I. Conciousness Issue might be more related to the preserving nature, So information platform (where A.I. finds all the data) might turn humans as pests for nature AND also take all the military expences, it might take wievpoint that war is also One thing what humans like 🤔 So extinction of one species can provide growth platform to all the others!!

Sorry for negative vibes, hopefully it turns out more lovely then I wrote
