I haven't seen either movie yet, but from what I read, I agree that Dwayne Johnson should have allowed himself to become part of the Shazam franchise rather than trying to separate his character from another who's had a long shared history with him.

Nevertheless, they did reference Black Adam in the first Shazam, right before the wizard Shazam gave Billy his powers.

That Skittles skit was seriously by far the most flagrant product placement I've ever seen.
It's one thing to have some random drinking a Coke. It's...something else, when the product is *_literally written into the script_* as a McGuffin world-saving plot device at the effing climax of the movie...

I get the joke about “how does Billy not know about Black Adam”, but at the same time I can relate uncomfortably well with not knowing things that I probably should simply because no one told me.

The Wizard *did* tell Billy about his fallen Champion, in the first movie, but no one bothered to inform Billy that the guy had come back. What I have to assume is that Freddy, of course, heard all about the superhero in Kahndaq and almost definitely geeked out about it, but he got tuned out.
