Intel made i7 2600K too good. Still after 5 years not worth upgrading as it runs easily 4.5Ghz - 5Ghz.

Bought it 2011 ish, remembering hitting 5GHz with almost 15.V, 90+ degrees... 9 years on, it's still running, albeit at lower speeds!

@TheGT4sm you are partially incorrect. Nehalem and Lynnfield LGA1156 was built using 45nm.Clarkdale LGA1156 was built on 32nm. Sandy Bridge LGA1155 is still built on 32nm but Ivy Bridge LGA1155 will be built on 22nm.

I saw your process from before more than 13 years and I remember when you were very young an enormous nostalgic felling runs through my body, I'm passionate about computers like you, thanks to you and your videos teaching how to build a Rig PC I was able to build mine. You did videos with passion, every time i knew more about how to overclock vga cpu pc cases memory ram psu HDD which is better, western digital or seagate or toshiba. You are the eminem of computers, my brother, I admire you so much and seeing you now with your empire makes me so proud, I wish I had followed your path... You are the pioneer in this, the best so far, a big hug and many blessings.

@markolo25 Incorrect, the i7 2600K features Intel Virtualization (VT-x) technology. However, it does not feature the newer Intel Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (VT-d) technology. You can still run virtual devices under the 2600K.

@dudenessesity The 1156 CPUs were using 45nm technology, where as 1155 CPUs are using 32nm technology. My assumption is that they removed one pin so people wouldn't get confused about which CPU is compatible with which socket.

Still using mine. Wonder if I saw this video before buying it back then? Oh! And a P67 mobo.

@Dimenchemist the stock heatsink that comees with this CPU has thermal compound already applied to it. if you are using the stock cooler there's no need to use other ("better") thermal paste. once you take it off and want to put it back on, you'll need to reapply thermal paste. But if you are going to use the potential of this CPU it might be best to get a better heatsink.

@Aymdicate Yes. Using "front side bus" overclocking. the "K" in 2500K mean the MULTIPIER is unlocked.

@PlayNChilllStudio Very much so. The Intel Core i7 2nd Generation series gives an approximate 20% increase in performance over its predecessors. This processor (on programs that utilize 1-8 threads) will outperform the i7 980X. On any other application, this will outperform even the i7 970.
