HOW TO STUDY FOR ANATOMY. Are you about to take anatomy and feel a little overwhelmed? In this video I’ll share with you my tips for how I passed anatomy in nursing school. This video will be helpful for everyone taking anatomy, whether they are in nursing school, medical school, PA school, NP school, or any other healthcare science. I’ll also share some new ways that I would incorporate into my studying routine if I was taking Anatomy today. Anatomy is highly memorization based, so many of these tips would be applicable to subjects that are similar as well. Be sure to leave your tips for passing anatomy in the description to help others as well!

You can also use the above link to try out picmonic for free!

Things that helped me get through A&P:
-Quizlet and Picmonic were extremely useful in memorizing specifics
- I also printed out a blank picture to label, but instead of writing on the actual picture, I put it in a sheet protector and wrote on it with wet erase markers so that I could reuse that one piece of paper that I printed
-if the professor has objectives on a PowerPoint, study based off of those, in my experience, there is way too much information to memorize and some of it wasn’t even needed for the exam.

Not necessarily for A&P, but for microbiology and Patho I listened to a podcast called “This Podcast will Will You” and it was super useful to memorize the epidemiology of diseases, and their personalities kept me coming back even after I was done with the classes.

I’m currently taking A&P. What really helps me is making a study guide for lecture, then recording myself reading them. I listen to them while driving, doing dishes, laundry, you name it. Then with my iPad I have the blank picture where I’ll fill in the blank over and over again. I also use a dry erase board for when I’m having to fill in the blanks. That’s really useful for spelling. And of course I do that over and over. I did buy the anatomy flash cards off amazon, however I haven’t used them yet because they vary slightly with what my teacher requires. As in they don’t have all the terms we need to know or it’s split up. So I’ve just stuck with what my teacher has given or told us will be on the test. So far I’ve made a 100 or above on all quizzes, assignments and tests so it’s worked for me so far. I did just download the app you mentioned so I’ll see if that helps too. Thanks for the tips!

I’m taking Anatomy lecture and lab this Summer semester, and today I took my lecture test #2, which includes the axial and appendicular bones and appendicular and axial muscles. It was a lot of information, but I got a 93% on the test! Super stocked!! It was 50 questions, with a 2 hour time limit. I got 46.5 questions right, and not included in my score was a 7 point extra credit regarding the process of a relaxed sarcomere, which I also got all 7 points awarded. Feeling pretty good and confident in myself right now! 🙂

The coloring book is an amazing outlet for me. I absolutely love doing it. Also, thank you Nurse Liz so much for all your help with nursing and your time making these videos. I am going to Nursing School in January and I plan on watching more of your videos to really learn everything I need to prepare for school. I'm so glad I found you and your channel! You're so awesome! Thank you again and much love! -Alexx 💙

I took A&P 12 years ago now! Man I feel old! This was way before iPads and fancy technology but I had a similar method to you. I would photocopy the diagrams with the labels from the book, cut out tiny pieces of paper and tape them over the labels, and then make a copy of the sheet with the labels covered 😂 then I would use that to quiz myself until I knew it! it was a process but it really worked for A&P and later for cross sectional anatomy also 👍🏼

A laminator is a nursing school must have! It's great for practicing your labeling.

The idea to have the clear cover sheet notebook to insert printouts to write over and erase is brilliant. I’m definitely going to try it. Thanks for the video!!!!

Last year I took A&P 1 and 2. I was very nervous before I took it. I would not buy anything until you start class because my Anatomy class was not as in-depth as some of the videos that I would watch online and it would stress me out because I was trying to memorize things that I wouldn't be tested on. I thought that the hardest part of Anatomy was the lab. In my lab, we were tested using models of the muscles, bones, etc and Samuel Chen has a lot of videos on his channel going over each model. I would just watch the videos over and over again. For the lecture component, I would take notes on everything the teacher said (50 min lectures) and then I would copy the notes into a separate notebook before the next class so I could ask questions if I needed clarification. My Anatomy class was not that bad and I promise that you WILL survive it. Also, you really want to understand anatomy because it is your foundation for Patho.

Maybe when you took anatomy it was easy but when I took anatomy we not only had to know the location, articulation & function of the body parts we had know chemistry, biology & biochemistry. We had to understand & know about DNA, mitosis, different types of bonds, how fluid particularly water moves from one area to another, hydrostatic pressure & so many other biological processes. I kind of wish I read & learned more before I took it.

I’m a first year in a BScN program and am taking all 3 anatomy sections in my first year. So far I’ve found using anki to be super helpful. You can upload images and hide the labels. It’ll then quiz you on each one. My prof also includes objectives in his slides so I try to study/base my A&P anki cards off of those instead of studying every single thing on the slides.
