In this video I describe in physiological detail how PTH effects calcium and phosphate regulation in the body. I also discuss it's effect on muscles in terms of generating clinical signs such as Trousseau's and Chvostek's signs. At the end of the video I present two questions for you to work through and that I explain as well.

I've had symptoms of this for nearly 10 years but was just diagnoses with hyperparathyroidism less than a week ago. I was told I had "demineralized" bones in an x-ray of my back at age 17 or 18, then developed a kidney stone at age 20. Then I was told my blood calcium level was too high a year or two after that. My GP ordered blood tests and dismissed the possibility of hyperparathyroidism. A few months ago, I was diagnosed with osteopenia by my rheumatologist because I have hypermobility in many joints and tendinitis and bursitis in many places in my body. She sent me for a DEXA scan and x-rays on various joints and referred me to an endocrinologist, who ordered blood tests and urine tests. He finally diagnosed me and is sending me for an ultrasound and a nuclear medicine study and then I'll have surgery. I wonder why no one had ever suspected it before when there were so many red flags.
I'm 26, by the way.

you did not talk about how it hyperthyroidism affects vitamin D levels to keep them low due to the high Ca2+ in blood. Would giving extra vitamin D to a hyperthyroid patient be harmful to the person in any way?
