Today's government press conference was given by Chancellor Rishi Sunak. He was joined by Prof Stephen Powis, the medical director of NHS England.

Here's what they told us:

Employers will be asked to pay a contribution to the furlough wage scheme. In August they will be asked to pay national insurance and pensions contributions. In September, they will be expected to pay 10% of wages, and in October 20%, as the government contribution tapers off. The furlough wage cap will also decrease each month. The scheme will then close.

From July, a "flexible" furlough will be introduced, to allow businesses to bring staff back part-time.

The self-employment scheme will be extended, with people receiving another three-month grant, based on 70% of their previous earnings, in August. The cap on the grant will also be lowered.

Any increase in transmission rates or the number of infections may see targeted restrictions re-introduced.

People now being let go from their jobs in hospitality because the greedy industry has now got to pay some wages

What is the point of extending this furlough and expect businesses to continue retaining jobs yet a lot of this small businesses have not even receive any grant from the government? Do you expect this small business to keep on giving wages from furlough yet not receiving any? Yes you introduced loans yet loans are ment to be paid for by the company not the government.

The bbc have produced disgusting coverage of the pandemic. Totally politicising and personalising it's so called journalism. Totally disgusting.

If you've got 4 kids do you leave 2 of them back home while you and your husband drive 200 miles away to visit their grandparents? By the way, deaths are not falling at all, just your figures, plus Sage has just released a statement that a second phase of Covid is inevitable and easing off is far too early.

Why do they no longer tell us the amount of people in hospital? The only reason I watch these updates is for the updates at the beginning

Cut MP pay to the national average. Conservatives aren’t worth as much as that. What s good for the goose is good for the gander.

At least they are not saying; "Died with corona virus" like they do in the USA. (implying its not the heart disease, cancer, etc that actually killed them)

Hmmm, approaching 40.000 casualties in this COVID war in the UK. Great stuff Boris! ... :-( Watching these "news flashes" from up here in "Viking land". Our casualties are 236 so far in this war ...

I do however feel we are at risk of creating a lot lazy people.
A friend is having trouble getting staff back to work in her nursery for next week.
Too many are quite happy to sit home in the sun on 80% pay.
They don’t feel inclined to return to work one little bit.

My boss has told me I need to re apply for my job working from part time to full time.
As they only need one full time person in the office, I work part time due to childcare and illness which my employer already knows.
Also I was told by my employer they will only furlough as long as they can get the money back.

Hi people, I´ve got a question. I have postponed a two weeks trip to the UK for the next year (june 2021). How do you think the situation will be over there next year?
