Atomic Heart is an upcoming FPS action role-playing video game developed by Mundfish and published by Focus Entertainment and 4Divinity. The game is planned for release for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on February 21, 2023.

Atomic Heart is an FPS video game with action role-playing elements.[2] The combat in the game consists of shooting and slashing with improvised weapons. A wide variety of enemies are featured, which may be mechanical, biomechanical, biological, and some of which are airborne. There is a crafting system where the weapons can be pieced together from metal parts that can be detached from robots or taken from household appliances. Weapons can also be upgraded via a mechanic called "casettes.” Ammo in the game is scarce, and there is a stealth option. Quick-time events are also featured in the game.[3] The player wears a special glove, the Polymer Glove, which grants him powers such as telekinesis, freezing, and electricity to defeat his foes. Its powers can be combined with both melee and ranged weapons.

In a weird way, the $70 thing (which I hate but it is the standard now) has made people a lot more critical of games which is a blessing in disguise. We've been accepting poor and outright shit games for far too long and now people actually take the time to evaluate if a game is actually good before buying it. I suspect (and hope) that we're turning a corner in gaming as a whole.

I kept wondering why this game wasn't categorized or treated like a horror game, then realized that not everyone has a phobia of mannequins and robots that look like people. 😅

So fun fact is the crispy critters is a reference to P3s backstory when he was "rebuilt" one of the doctors kept refuring to him his wife as "those poor crispy critters" so much that when p3 regained consciousness he choked out the doctor and its thought to be a trauma response

But, to play devil advocate (and working in the AAA business), people forgot that it's a first game for Mudfish, they have flush of 80 (growing during developpment) staff members and the stylistic choice is so original, every assets need to be made. I think, for a AAA level game from a 40-80 people team (not 500-1000 people +, like a COD for example), it's pretty amazing to see how game developpment is now more accesible than ever.

"Why Atomic Heart was underrated"
"The thing about Atomic Heart"
"We got it wrong about Atomic Heart"
"Why Atomic Heart is a masterpiece"
"Atomic Heart was great and here's why"
"Blown away by this!"
Edit: God, lmao I can even believe this...this is really what we're doing now?
Atomic heart is a great game.

I think what Bioshock successors are missing is the fact that the gameplay of Bioshock was built around the story and vision of the game, whereas all Bioshock copies are building a story around bioshock-esque gameplay, and it doesn't work.

It sounds like it imitated Bioshock perfectly. Incredible start, many powers, but only a few are actually useful and you're fetch questing through hoards of the same enemies broken up by a couple of different fights, and then eventually it ends. I guess that's more Infinite than first game, but still its closer to Bioshock than what most people remember.

Maybe just maybe, Atomic Heart shouldn't have tried to become the Next Bioshock but should have just focused on becoming the First Atomic Heart.

this game has a vision, it has love and care put into it and I really like that. the game has issues but I really do hope that it sells enough to help the devs create what they want.

The English voices were so bad that I switched the voice option to Russian and it's soooo much better. I don't mind subtitles, so now that I don't hate the protagonist's voice acting, the game is much more enjoyable. Plus, you get to learn to swear in Russian, so it's educational too!

One of my pet peeves is when a game makes you do something lame/tedious, and the devs think it's OK because your character points out that it's lame/tedious.

Hate it hate it hate it

A lot of potential but some choices weren't the best. If they create another game, I'd imagine they will learn from the feedback.

I think "Crispy Critters" is supposed to be like his version of, "Jinkies!" or "Zoinks!" But the execution just... makes it sound like the VA was expecting some kind of enemy called crispy critters to show up and he now has to get ready for battle, rather than a verbal tick representing anxiety.

It sounds like a lot of folks are giving this title the "tough love" treatment. They really wanted this to be a BioShock successor but it was just a very good looking game with average to sub average mechanics. Not bad for a first outing.

We already have a spiritual successor to Bioshock. It's called Prey (2017).

"Waiting for a Successor to Bioshock for ten years..." As Prey 2017 has been out for 6 years now. I know that game flew under people's radar but its disturbing the lack of Bioshock fans that are aware of that game.

I think the game looks impressive for a first release. Excited to try it out

several times I've been critical of your work but as time goes on I have to say I trust you more than I trust other reviewers, you aren't afraid of telling the truth and you are commited to your public instead of the videogames companies so I have to say Chapeau Mr. Stephens Chapeau... you do a great job as a videogame critic and public figure for gamers.

In Russian, Major P3 Nechaev says "4king pies." This is explained by the plot, in one of the computers. The phrase sounds completely "almost burned there like 4king pies." But English -speaking publishers did not miss such speech circulation.
