In reality, Napoleon held out his arms and said "If you wish to kill your Emperor, here I am." This scens is a joke comapred to what ACTUALLY happened.

Waterloo's scene of this is soo much better. This comes across as a tv film scene. No disrespect to Phoenix he worked with the script he had

Nothing warms a leaders heart more than the authentic love from those who allow them to lead. While not the same, I have felt this before a few times in my own life, and being acknowledged this way feels about as good as anything.

God it is remakrable how much worse Ridley made this scene compared to the 1970 film. Hell it is less dramatic than the historic accounts of what happened at the meeting with the 5eme de ligne.

Napoleon 2023: *Director Was Too Lazy To Go For Historical Accuracy*
Waterloo 1970: *Accurate Representation*

I love the uniforms I can see Voldigurs and grenadiers in the background and the pompoms and the currasiers and the old guard uniforms are beautiful

Chanting altogether at the same time would've been a powerful moment.

If the Emperor had not let Marshal Ney stand by Louis 16's brother, all those who loved him would never have betrayed him.

This kinda reminds me of the scene in inside out, but instead of "please don't be mad" it's "will you join me"

i think Ridley Scott barely gleams over historical texts

I see a lot of people saying this scene is ass compared to what really happened/in Waterloo but I personally feel that it's good enough, Napoleon made an entire Regiment bow their heads and join him and that's what both Waterloo and this scene show, even if inaccurately.

Honestly the lines said actually make more sense the 1970 Waterloo where he just says “if you want to kill your emperor, here I am”

Imagine this but 50 thousand men hes talking to and not maybe 150

as in accurate as this movie is, I gotta admit, this scene is pretty wholesome

If they didn't advertise this as a historical adaptation of Napoleon this would've been a great scene. As to be honest it isn't bad in any form of the word, just more modern and honestly emotional.

The lighting is so poor we can't see any of the soldiers' faces (but I'm pretty sure I can tell at least one of them is Black, because it's 2023, not 1815), the soldiers chuckling breaks any somber tension and just makes it awkward, and his voice was WHINY. Their reaction felt so faked. About as fake as all the accounts in this comment section posting heart emojis. Pathetic.

Bro after seeing the Waterloo movie scene of this I realize how much of an absolute joke this is. They took a well documented scene where we know what he said, changed the script slightly, and toned it down in numbers and tone. Disappointing

If you want a better version, watch Waterloo 1970
