Not losing the winning ticket is key. In September 1998 I got a Snickers bar with Jerome Bettis on it. I was a Steelers fan and each week in the break room at work there was a new MVP on the Snickers wrapper. I figured it was Jerome's week and it went in the trash. I think going to a psychologist is a good idea.
