U.S. Develops Channel With Israel To Probe Civilian Casualties In Gaza

The United States has created a messaging channel with Israel to address civilian death toll reports coming about of Gaza. Cenk Uygur, Ben Gleib and Sharon Reed discuss on The Young Turks.

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States has created a channel with Israel to discuss concerns over incidents in Gaza in which civilians have been killed or injured by the Israeli military and civilian facilities have been targeted, two U.S. officials with knowledge told Reuters.

The channel was set up after a meeting earlier this month between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Israel's war cabinet during which Blinken expressed concern about the "constant" reports of Israeli strikes that either hit humanitarian sites or resulted in large numbers of civilian deaths."

The hosts are incredibly ignorant about the court ruling. They weren't there to say whether or not it was a genocide. It was a victory because they said that it was plausible and carried the case on despite Israel's protest.

Ben that is outright false. The hearing was NEVER to determine that it in fact is genocide, it was to see if it rises to the level of being investigated as such by the ICJ, and of having further court cases to determine if it truly is Genocide. This case was a win, because now Israel's crimes will be fully investigated and convicted. The "restraining order" is like when an abusive spouse is given a restraining order after a hearing, if not in jail already and able to walk freely, while the court can determine the extent of the abuse, and the proper punishment at a later date. This is not a loss. What is a loss is how little they chose to voice the need for immediate action to save the starving Gazans.

Continuing. Ben, Im a 62 yo white christian American who has supported Israel since I was a kid. I believed all of Israels BS until I asked myself one auestion :’Why is there 750, 000+ illegal settlers in the west bank? Forget the occupation, debumanization and cruelty towards Palestinians every day(Been to Hebron??). So Ben, tell me WHY, during PM’s both liberal and conservative and righg wing, has there been a steady increase in settlers? I came to realize that since becore 1967, it has een Israels clear intent to steal what remains of Palestinian lands and to brutalize and get rid of as many Palestinians as they can. If one puts aside all the glowing propaganda and rhetoric of the last 75 years, thata what we are left with.

On a related point, during a heated conversation with Cenk, you mentioned the ‘only democracy in the middle east’. Yes, democracy for jews, Ben- not for Arab-Israelis. Let me ask you, if im an Israeli jew, can i buy land in the south to farm? Yes I can and with tons of state aid to help me do it. Now, if im an Israeli-arab, can I do the same? NO, I cannot. If im an Arab-Israeli can I go and visit and claim the land and home mygrandparents owned in
say, Jaffa ? NO, i cannot. There laws for Jews and there are laws for arab-israelis.


Seperate laws & rights for various grouos in a country is what was called appartheid; ‘seperateness’ in Afrikaans, the dutch-south african language. Israel does not have a democracy, Ben. As evidenced by the 56 years Settler-project, Israel bas never been a sincere partner for peace.

But Israel better wake up and snap out of it, Ben because what I saw on Oct 7th and how Israel handled it makes me afraid for Israels future. When Israel loses someone like me, a lifelong supporter; and there are many, many more nust like menow, she is really in trouble.

Am I the only one who thinks Germany should have become Israel after ww2? Being they are the ones who should have made reparations. Not the Palestinians who weren't even involved? Speaking as someone who doesn't actually know what the answer is to fix everything.
