In this short Sam Witwer talks about playing Jedi survivor and how far the technology and game play has come since the force unleashed was released. Sam also talks about cal Kestis vs Starkiller and their use of the force.

Cal Kestis is a fantastic character and so is Starkiller. Love hearing Sam talk about both and the joy of playing both games.

I love that sam gets to just geek out like this about star wars still

Synopsis of Star Wars (courtesy of Wikipedia):

The Star Wars franchise depicts the adventures of characters "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" across multiple fictional eras, in which humans and many species of aliens (often humanoid) co-exist with droids, which may be programmed for personal assistance or battle. Space travel between planets is common due to lightspeed hyperspace technology. The planets range from wealthy, planet-wide cities to deserts scarcely populated by primitive tribes. Virtually any Earth biome, along with many fictional ones, has its counterpart as a Star Wars planet which, in most cases, teem with sentient and non-sentient alien life. The franchise also makes use of other astronomical objects such as asteroid fields and nebulae. Spacecraft range from small starfighters to large capital ships, such as the Star Destroyers, as well as space stations such as the moon-sized Death Stars. Telecommunication includes two-way audio and audiovisual screens, holographic projections, and hyperspace transmission.

The universe of Star Wars is generally similar to the real universe but its laws of physics are less strict allowing for more imaginative stories. One result of that is a mystical power known as the Force which is described in the original film as "an energy field created by all living things ... [that] binds the galaxy together". The field is depicted as a kind of pantheistic god. Through training and meditation, those whom "the Force is strong with" exhibit various superpowers (such as telekinesis, precognition, telepathy, and manipulation of physical energy). It is believed nothing is impossible for the Force. The mentioned powers are wielded by two major knightly orders at conflict with each other: the Jedi, peacekeepers of the Galactic Republic who act on the light side of the Force through non-attachment and arbitration, and the Sith, who use the dark side by manipulating fear and aggression. While Jedi Knights can be numerous, the Dark Lords of the Sith (or 'Darths') are intended to be limited to two: a master and their apprentice.

The franchise is set against a backdrop of galactic conflict involving republics and empires, such as the evil Galactic Empire. The Jedi and Sith prefer the use of a weapon called the lightsaber, a blade of plasma that can cut through virtually any surface and deflect energy bolts. The rest of the population, as well as renegades and soldiers, use plasma-powered blaster firearms. In the outer reaches of the galaxy, crime syndicates such as the Hutt cartel are dominant. Bounty hunters are often employed by both gangsters and governments, while illicit activities include smuggling and slavery.

The combination of science fiction and fantasy elements makes Star Wars a very universal franchise, capable of telling stories of various genres.

JS: Survival fantasy

I think of it as Cal's games being more subtle and nonviolent light side of the force, while Starkiller's games are more raw power dark side. Both have their places on opposite ends of the spectrum.

For the love of all that’s holy, have Sam direct, and star in Force Unleashed movie.

I’d kill for a remake of Force Unleashed with today’s graphics and technology. Especially if Sam reprised his role in it.

Which isn't necessarily bad on either character. Cal isn't as powerful but as Sam said he's more efficient and economical about how he uses his power, imagine Obi-wan if he had potential closer to someone like Dooku.

Starkiller on the other hand has MUCH more raw power and potential than Cal and uses it freely, he's not as efficient as Cal but his absurd power makes up for that. He's not as skilled of a force user as Cal is but he doesn't need to be.

The Star Destroyer is probably the best way to distinguish them. Starkiller will use his power to direct the star destroyer itself from orbit onto the ground, where as Cal would dominate the mind of the pilot flying the star destroyer and have him crash the star destroyer instead. Both methods accomplish the same goal but Cal and Starkiller utilize their respective strengths to complete those goals.

Would love to see Cameron Monaghan and Sam Witwer play their characters in a live action Star Wars special.
They look perfectly to how their characters do, and they both have experience with live action acting.

I always interpreted as Starkiller's amped up force abilities was purely made for the gameplay, not the same as story consistency. That being said, if you think about it, he's trading firepower for precision. Which Cal does the opposite of.

I love that Sam Witwer (Starkiller) and David Collins (Proxy) both enjoyed Jedi Survivor. I know they'll never go back to the overpowered destruction of TFU, but the new games are still super fun.

When TFU was being marketed as "What if the Force was portrayed as it hypothetically should be, unlimited by a VFX budget, " I was pumped. But after playing Fallen Order / Jedi Survivor, I realize that it's actually more fun to be limited. At a certain point in TFU you just become an anime character who is basically unkillable, and things get fairly repetitive and boring (gameplay wise at least.) Yes, there are infinite ways to kill things, but not very many ways to die. The Soulslike element of Cal's games made me realize it is always more fun to have the odds against you, forcing you to use every trick at your disposal and every skill you possess to win. At least, that was my experience.

Starkiller was conpared to a grenade of the Force while someone said a character like Darth Plagius was a book of the Force which does a pretty good job showing the difference in what certain characters specialties were. Galen was the child of two Jedi which created a kid who had strong connection to the Force from a young age and was trained as a weapon of rage and destruction by one of the most powerful beings the galaxy has ever seen.

You actually do get more insight into the characters personal thoughts in the novels like how he learned about every fighting style of the Jedi and Sith while becoming an expert in two of them. Which shows that Galen is NOT STUPID but he has never focused on small things (which Sam mentioned about Galen's meditation sceen funnily enough) since he was only ever meant as a weapon yet he starts unlocking new aspects of the Force after he starts to take in the Light Side of the Force after his second betrayal. Really shows just how powerful Galen could have been if he was given time to develop his more precision based powers, not only would he have monstrous strength but he could have the discipline that normally spells the end of other berserkers of the Dark Side.

Both games are cathartic if you ask me. The Force Unleashed gave us the opportunity to just run rampant with the Force in ways we always fantasized about, and Jedi Survivor is more true to how the Force should be portrayed in its purest form. There's a place for both finesse and OP as fuck.
