We explore the Hebrew word "nephesh" that often gets translated as "soul." The English word usually refers to a non-material essence of a human that survives after death, but nephesh means something different. It is referring to humans as living, breathing, physical beings, or just to life itself. Prepare to be surprised at the biblical meaning of this fascinating word.

This is one of my favourite videos on your channel. I've only recently become a serious Christian and so I didn't even realise the concept of a soul has been misinterpreted. Half an hour later, I'm digging right into researching the topic and sobbing my eyes out at how the importance of living your life with and for God is made fresh. I want people to feel loved and be happy but most of all, I want them to be alive - really living. God is the source of all life and He loves you and as you walk with Him, you'll find He is worthy of all your trust. You don't have to stay chained to your past, you don't have to look around for a quick fix for a temporary high, you don't have to seek validation from places that never satisfy you and you don't have to have your mind overloaded with worries - God is with you. Give Him a tiny chance, a tiny mustard seed of desperate faith and He will transform your life.

Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

I love your attention to detail, it’s so cool to see the writers writing Hebrew from right to left, that’s such a crazy detail haha

Wow! Mind blown! Can't wait to share. Definitely saw the soul as the "ghost in the machine." I stand happily corrected! Many passages make so much more sense now. What a great puzzle piece! Thank you guys SO much!

These concepts properly understood give so much more depth to the phrase 'to love your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your strength'! Thanks for these explanatory videos!

"...And man became a living soul" Genesis 2:7

It didn't say a soul was put into a body, it said we BECAME

Definitely a good and informative take on the "soul". You're right about how people normally consider the Greek idea of souls. I was one of them. Thanks for the elaboration

So offering our bodies as a "living sacrifice " is technically in the old testament as well. That's actually brilliant!

These videos are always so cool! I love how the images don't usually take up the entire screen so people with smaller screens can still see everything! Have a blessed week everyone! God loves us all so much:)
