It is the job of management to prioritize. If everything is urgent then nothing is urgent.

I am a manager. Thank you for this channel. It keeps me conscious of the million ways people disrespect the people that work for them. I never want to be that person.

No, as the Manager, it is YOUR job to manage the work load, to ensure that everything gets done. You should know your resources and be able to identify when a 20 pound shelf won't hold a 50 pound bag.

So just to be clear, we're dropping everything but also doing everything? Super clear chief

"drop everything"="do your basic stuff AND EXTRA in the same time", probably every toxic boss ever

I've had this boss. There are now 3 people doing the job I wasn't able to do alone (and was fired for not being able to do) despite me showing management that it was 100 hours of work.

One time when I asked my boss for some criteria to judge our productivity by, his response was "Just get everything done."

Always send a confirmation email to your boss about a task change, agreement, everything

“It’s your job to balance the workload.”

No, that’s your job. What a putz.

"Drop everything... but also guess which jobs you aren't to drop."

I had a boss who would pull this stuff all the time. I eventually started recording my calls. Not to complain to HR, because she was the only boss and there was no HR. Not to throw in her face later or sue her or something. Just for my own sanity. To know what I thought i heard before was in fact correct.

I wound up quitting a couple months later and I still get bad dreams about it 8 years later.

This is also a problem in retail. I worked for a big crafting chain as a sales associate. We ALSO had to do go backs and stocking items. Every time we stopped our task to help customers…you guessed it, we got chewed out because our other tasks didnt get done. I did a malicious compliance deal and told a customer who came up to me that I wasnt able to help because i had more important things to do first. I was let go for not putting customer service first lol.

I cannot work with ppl like that, they want you to do one thing, then furiously demand why you didn't do the opposite at the same time!

Sounds like a take no responsibility approach to management. Typical bad boss.

It's amazing how requests change when you insist they are given in writing.

When everything has top priority, then nothing has priority.

That's why it's so important to document all those informal agreements

I’ve had managers like this and it’s confusing half the time. They then gaslight you and fuck you over

“Tent me. I need that in writing”

If hearing “I need that in writing” doesn’t immediately make you rethink your position, you probably are in the wrong line of work
