I learned the HARD way, NEVER feel guilty about making a business decision for your career. Companies don't care when the story is flipped. Be polite, do your best for any transitions, but do what is best for you. Good advice, Ken.

Question: Why is it professional that we give our employers 2 week notice when we end our employment, but our employers can terminate us on the spot and its okay?

How is it disrespectful for him to give a 2 week notice? He didn't have to give her any notice. If she gets rid of him before the 2 weeks, she just hurts herself. The 2 week notice is for the company, not the employee. This lady is a piece of work.

It doesn't matter. They can get mad and stay mad. This is YOUR life. You are in control of your own life.

Best of luck to this young man. If the restaurant wanted to dump him for whatever reason they would in a heartbeat. The manager's response to his announcement is exactly why people aren't loyal anymore. No one trusts anyone anymore and we live in a world where greed is running rampant and it is everyone for themselves. It's a sad state of affairs.

You learn a lot about an employer when you turn in a notice. It’s a harsh reality when you learn young tnat companies have no loyalty or care about you at all. But once you know that you can move forward knowing just be respectful and do what’s best for your home. Can’t control what they’re gonna do

Common sense you don't want your employees to leave? GIVE THEM A COUNTER OFFER 👏

2 weeks notice is for them to fill the position before you leave. Take that 2 weeks for yourself to rest and get prepared for the new position.

two weeks notice. That is all they deserve. At the point she flipped, I would have said okay I will go right now.

I would have walked off the job that minute.

I work for a office that employees less than 50 people. I told a coworker that I had a job interview. My office manager confronted; asked if I was actively looking for a position. I told her the truth. That this job offer popped up in my news feed and I applied for it. I found out that she posted my job that day! I live paycheck to paycheck. It really upset me that she was going to terminate me for looking for another job. Yet, when the 20 something year old turned in her notice they offered her more money to stay. Plus, they listed my job for four dollars more per hour than what I make. Why was I looking for another job? We were told that due to the IT removing software from the managers computer that they could not complete annual reviews or give raises. A few weeks later, they promoted about five people including the office manager and gave those people raises.

No counteroffer means that they really don't want to keep him. He was just there for their convenience. If they kick him out, all the better, because they don't really need him if they do that. Good luck to this guy.

I've never given a 2 weeks notice. I just stopped showing up. I don't owe them a damn thing.

I never had any problems at all with my job. I put in my two weeks and my boss started pointing out things that he didn’t like about my work ethic. He said they have gone out of their way to accommodate my request.? I was so confused. He said you need to work really hard the next two weeks and don’t slack, you have put us in a bind. I was so confused I have worked my ass off since day 1. Screw character, I left so I hope they enjoy their bind! It was such a shocking interaction. I could not believe what had happened. It has made me think my boss was fake with me the whole time. The reason I didn’t go back is because I thought it would be a weird environment to be in after the things he said. It was better for me and my integrity 😁

Ken is absolutely right she is triggered.

As a ClinicalI Social Worker I call that first reaction an emotional kick; it's just like your foot kicking out when the doc taps your knee during a sports physical.. I encourage people to overlook the first 15 to 30 seconds of someone's response and not take it personally.

Also, as a general rule If the strong negativity is coming from them it's really more about them. If it's coming from you it's really about you. God bless guys.

If its hourly/entry level and you need the money, don't give advance notice. Inform them at the end of the shift or follow online procedure. 99% it will result in termination anyway.

I gave two weeks notice on my last two jobs. Both employers responded by just removing me from the schedule they had posted on the computer. Neither of the two even tried to get me to stay by offering me more money. Both times I left each employer, I went to a new job with even more pay. I left my last employer due to an inexperienced manager who was creating a toxic work environment, and was targeting me. The last manager thought she could retaliate by just removing me from the schedule. However I was able to start the new position right away. The managers attempt was unsuccessful. There are jobs out there that employers are having difficulty filling.
