How to tackle Slime Biomes : Tutorial nuggets : Oxygen not included

A quick tutorial on how to demolish slime biomes, short version throw down some deoderizers and rip the biome up. Long version come in from the top. Slime is pretty much a non issue right now so with a tiny bit of preparation you should have no issues dealing with it.

Back in my day slimelung used to be dangerous

I saw this hit my feed yesterday and have been excited to watch it. I've got 75 hours played over multiple saves and have never dug out of the starting biome. The advanced mechanics of this game are, to me, pretty daunting. My biggest issue is not knowing what to do, when or in conjunction with what. I love this video as it's short, to the point and walks you through it. Most "tutorials" I have found searching are either old and outdated or they are buried in a 30 minute video (or worse a 4 hour live stream) and you have no idea where to find it and when you do, they typically bounce around multiple times during the process so you never really can follow what the original point was. Kudos to you. I would LOVE to see an entire series of these dealing with the various biomes and then also various advanced mechanics in the game (SPOM, Water Cleaning, Water Cooling/Heating, etc). Anyway, thanks again!

There are so many ONI youtubers, yet only this fella give quick (well, as much as possible) concise tutorials about things that stump so many players.

Love your video's. Would love to see how you tackle the issues in 2022 now that deoderizers require power as well as other challenges in the base game.

When I started playing this game I was really daunted by the fact that you'd run out of materials because at some point you make polluted water and you have to clean that water or you are losing water and that uses sand and power both of which seemed finite to me but after watching your videos I've realised that while sand is finite it's at the level where you won't run out for a very long time and there is actually an infinite source of water in steam vents. I was also worried that making power from hydrogen by splitting water would result in less power than was used to split the water but that's not the case either although it is in real life. Basically I was worried about mass deleting (sand goes away when you change dirty water into clean water where as it should turn into some sort of mixture of sand + whatever was making the water dirty) and entropy in that you'd run out of resources to create energy but I've come to realise that 1 there is a stupidly large amount of materials and there are also resource taps in the form of vents and space debris so you could use regolith from space instead of sand. Anyway that's just to say I was very wary of this game when I first played it and I always tried to create a very small base when really I should have just watched some videos to understand the mechanics of things rather than assuming they work in a real world way. So thanks

To this point i didnt even know they nerfed it THAT hard. To this point i kept playing around slime lung as it was a nuclear bomb :D
I still got huge Vietnam Flashbacks from way back then when Slime Lung entered my base.

Buddy buds really just rendered slime lung a non threat.

Just getting back into the game and I gotta admit, I've been tiptoeing around slime thinking it'd easily wipe out my whole base. Definitely going to expand a lot faster now!
Also not sure if it's typically done but I like to dump all my excess CO2 into slime biomes as I dig down, that helps kill off the germs too.

Sees thumbnail during first five runs

That is a bold statement sir, you should say that to my poor dupes

Sees thumbnail during twentieth run

Lol man you right

Thank you so much for this. I have been carefully tiptoe-ing around slime biomes, frustrated that I was boxed in and couldn't go anywhere, because I just picked the game back up after a long absence and when I stopped playing slimelung was a terrifying thing that you would never, ever touch because it would end your run in no time and there's nothing you could do to stop it. I'll admit, I'm not sure I like the change. It makes the game feel less lethal. On the other hand, I feel more confident that I can handle it and move forward to something like mid-game.

You've been sitting on this one for a little while now. Still think the harder difficulties should add back the more extreme disease effects. Like vomiting for food poisoning, or suffocating in pure oxygen with slimelung, or zombification for the spores

Slimelung used to be super annoying given that you are almost surrounded by slime. But they nerfed it way too much :/

* a nice trick is to plant a buddy bud at at the entrance/exit of the slime biome. Two germs can't occupy the same space so it blocks the slimelung from spreading
* I like to place two hand sanitizes there too, so they wash their hands. Yeah, it has to be airborne, but I still don't like them glowing green

My base, every vertical ladder to go up and down has a fire pole on one side and mesh tile with deodorizer on the other side. Now the DLC requires electricity for deodorizers so best to use a unique electric grid for them as they consume 5w each allowing 200 on normal wires and 400 on conductive wires.

Wow, so much have changed. I was still under assumption I needed a suit before tearing down a slime area hahaha

Thank you so much for this, you've just earned a new Sub! Gonna check out your other vids soon! This might sound odd, but I really appreciate that you talk clearly, succinctly, and fast without being too fast.

Slime can be converted into water, and food (mushroom farm). It does have some uses. Letting it convert into polluted oxygen also gives you easy polluted oxygen to run through deoderizers. The de-oderizers will give you a lot of clay, which means you have a lot of materials for ceramic, which is the best insulation in the game at the moment. (not sure what they have done with abyssalite)

Well, this is a much better approach than the tentative, tepid, single atmo-suit, avoiding slime dots like the plague....approach that I'm taking. But I'm pretty new.
