CSGO smokes low fps

FPS drops -100 when approaching smoke, shoots up to 300 when inside.

Happening since a few patches ago when Valve tried to fix one way smokes, I now get 50FPS from 300 when 2 smokes go off together

My FPS was about 200 before. Now it's 120 and whenever I run into a smoke it drops to nearly 30 which is unplayable.

Ok, guys.. I had the same problem on my laptop. Normally I had around 150-200 fps and near a smoke about 60 fps.. I was searching on the internet for a long time but I couldn't find any fixes. Few days ago I was trying to set my game to max and normal fps were lower but fps near a smoke were same as before. So I decided to try alot of combinations in my setting. This worked for me: Anti-Aliasing Mode "2x MSAA", Texture filtering mode "Anisotropic 2X", FXAA Anti-Aliasing "Enabled" and Multicore rendering "Enabled". Everything else to low, very low or disabled. I don't really know why the game does that but this worked for me. If it won't work for you just try another combinations as I did. Hope I helped littlebit :)

edit: its works best with the customized drivers delivered on the cd or download them from ure laptop/desktop pc manufacturer and play a liitle with the multisampling hf and enjoy

i have all medium settings and 4;3 1600:1200 resolution and i get 120 fps everywhere (except new nuke only 80-100fps) then when i drop a smoke and stand near it like that i got to 40 fps for about 1-2 seconds until it renders then it goes back up. It started happening ever since they fixed the one way smoke thing a while back. Hopefully they can fix this but idk tbh.

Well ur pretty lucky to even have a gaming computer I play on 2008 iMac and my avg fps is 30 but when there is a smoke it goes down to 20

le_clean I think you're confusing this with the other complaint about smokes regarding the visibility timing when you're in/out of the smoke.  This video is in regards to the FPS drop you get any-time a smoke is on screen, and how it continues to get drastically worse when you're even closer to it.  

People are losing anywhere between 50-200 FPS due to these smokes, and a lot of them have really powerful gaming rigs.  This shouldn't be happening and is not something a pro will tell you is designed into the game.  This is a design flaw that should be fixed, though I'm sure they will.  I imagine a fix for this would probably take a while because I imagine it's something deep-rooted into the mechanics/engine of the game, but I honestly have no idea.  

It should be fixed though.

I used to have that problem. Not entirely sure what happened to fix it, the only change I have made is putting shaders on low so maybe try that otherwise idk

I now get 10 fps while going through smokes even though I only get 30 fps normally, now whenever I go through smoke I instantly get killed because I can't react to enemy players

even worse when you normally get 40 fps... it's gotten to the point that I just don't buy/go through smoke anymore. 12 fps is not fun
