-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Getting Things Done by David Allen is one of the staples of personal and professional productivity. Getting Things Done, or GTD for short has been on the top sellers' list for more than a decade (it first came out in 2001) and with good reason. David Allen has managed to create a system that you can use both at work, at school and at home - it is almost universal.

The book though is rather complex and lengthy and you can get lost in the nitty-gritty of the it all. And when you are overwhelmed, you cannot be productive.

That's why this video is so essential - in just 8 minutes, you'll be able to understands the core principles of Getting Things Done and start applying them in your life. Not to mention, the video is completely FREE, while you'll have to spend a few bucks to get your own copy of GTD.

Don't get me wrong though, the book is rather great, but you have to have the patience to go through all of it and it does get rather technical at times.

The best course of action would be the following - watch the video, learn David Allen's GTD concepts, apply them to your life and see how it goes. If you are happy with the results (as you most likely will be), head over to Amazon and get yourself a copy of the actual book.

This video will break down for you the core principles of GTD in only 5 steps - capture, process, organize, review and engage (it will make more sense once you've seen the video).

Watch the GTD summary, take action and apply it to your life and you'll see dramatic results.

Understanding Getting Things Done has never been easier - it only takes 8 minutes.

Let me know if you have any questions in the comment section below. Also, make sure to let me know if there is a book you'd like me to summarise and review for you.

Did a very quick summary, hope this helps!
5 steps
1. Capture
Capture action items/information so you don't need to remember it

2. Process: Is it actionable?
A. Yes? 2mins or less? Do it. Slower? List to prioritise
B. No? Keep it as a reference or discard

3. Organise: What is the next possible action?
Project (group together)
Time (calendar)
Context (groceries etc)
Non-actionable - store to revisit

4. Review: review action items and make adjustments
Weekly review of action items
Monthly review of goals - are these actions helping to achieve goals?

5. Engage - do it! Calendar will tell you what you have coming, project list will have actions that you need to do

I've been seeing a lot of talk about GTD as I explore productivity systems that work well for my neurodivergent brain. This video was so, so helpful! The visuals are what I really need to understand concepts and connections and I really enjoyed this.

Thanks so much!

Loved the ...."your kid sets the spanish closed caption on your tv" for storage of future information example.

This was good but it didn't mention loops, how mental energy is consumed by unaddressed tasks with no real plan. This is an important concept in understanding how to stress less and to have more mental capacity for what you need to do right now.

This is great! I was just about to re-read David's GTD book in order to get back on the system, but you saved me a lot of time by summarizing the book (quite well, I must say!). Thank you so much. I just subscribed.

Thank you for making videos like these. You have no idea how much it helps audio-visual learners like me. Reviewing books and summarizing it into videos help IMMENSELY. I absolutely have no patience to read books for leisure anymore ever since I entered college. I have so much self-help books I haven't read yet because I'm too tired or can't focus anymore, so your videos are god-sent.

Thank you!!!

I built my second brain in Notion (mainly following Marie Poulin's tutorials) and it's changed my life. I used to be super disorganised and didn't know what I was doing with my life, now I'm way less stressed, everything I learn is categorised, I have a calendar where I plan my projects. It can do everything that GTD suggests and beyond
