the context for this sequence is that alamzeb ( the girl sitting ) is poised to make her debut as a tawaif. but she doesn't want that and her mother ( manisha's character ) is forcing her. hence why she looks uninterested. her entire character is centered around the fact that she's sort of the only non-tawaif, innocent, pure soul and wether she escapes her destiny or ends up as a tawaif like everyone else.

The song was written 700 years ago, it was written by Nizzamuddin's disciple Amir Khosru, to lift up Nizzamuddin 's spirit. In spring, on the day of Basant Panchami ( the very day Khosru was said to have sang this for the 1st time), Nizzadmuddin's followers wear yellow and sing this song in his mausoleum while showering it with yellow coloured flowers.
