Here on the banks of the Jordan River where John the Baptist preached to the crowds, Dr. Tabor considers how he was arrested by Herod Antipas and brutally murdered at a birthday party. Jesus, as his successor, picked up the baton and revived the movement.

I've found this to be a very disturbing story since I was a child and heard it during a Sunday School lesson.

Couldn't he instead have been let out of jail like Peter and put to sleep like Moses...😢

John the Baptist is such an interesting person in the Bible and John knew where he was going and I’d imagine he wasn’t even scared!!! He went to heaven to be with his friend and God, Jesus

It really breaks my heart and I'm a Muslim

That's what the Quran says about him and he's honared

Qur'an Chapter 19 - verse 7

"O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name."

Qur'an Chapter 19 Verse 12 to 15

"Allah said, 'O John, take the Scripture with determination.' And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy. And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah. And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant. And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive."

Peace be upon him prophet Yahya ( Arabic)

Does anyone here seriously believe this story happened as stated? The Herod family was the region's wealthiest. Nobody would turn down half of that over the chance to execute a man who was of no consequence to their life.

And, backing up, who gives away half their wealth & power because they liked a dance performance? 😂 Come on now.

I'm not saying there was no John the Baptist. There may have been.

I'm not saying he wasn't beheaded. He may have been.

I am saying this story is at minimum half myth.

But the very next day John the Baptist was back at the Jordan River baptizing new followers of Christ despite being decapitated! Very bad ass if you ask me.

She should have taken half the kingdom, and asked for the half with John the Baptist in it.

Herod the Edomite (Idumean). He was not an Hebrew/Israelite. They are still among us today.

Malachi 1:2-4 KJV
2 I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob,
3 And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.
4 Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith Yahweh the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom Yahweh hath indignation for ever.

Luke 11:51 KJV
From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.

Generation (Greek: Genos) - Bloodline

Matthew 25:27
Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
