CORRECTION: Spotify isn't ran by facebook, I was thinking of some other social media probably.
Denshi addresses the minority of people who use Linux to enable nihilism rather than their own freedom.

man, you're right about the music thing. it's not everyone that uses Spotify, but i do know some people who do nothing but binge music instead of TV/videos/games/etc

I've realised this myself some time ago and decided to switch to fedora with gnome so that I can spend more time with my family and Church bretherein, but also get work done with minimal effort.

I'm customizing a distro for myself using arch btw, but it's not the highest priority in my life anymore.

Thank you for your kind words. May God bless you.

I think that free software is my hobby, a hobby as something I love doing in my free time. When I am on vacation I might re-configure dwm or try to make my own prompt for the libreboot's grub, but when I have work to do I prioritize it over the things I love. That's what it is, a hobby! Any hobby can turn to a vice because it's enjoyable. And only because of this hobby I've got into systems' programming languages like C and C++, only because of Linux I've got into Latex and make things much faster.

Nihilist is a word that can be easily misunderstood. How I think of it is that nothing has an inherent universal meaning or perspective to it. Meaning is subjective and there are many meanings. Laying out "nihilism" as an idea had to come about to protect from monopoly of power/removing people of their free thought and will by telling them that there is only 1 correct way for everyone and any who fall outside of the religious/government/etc order of prescribed perspective should be ashamed and think something is wrong with them and keep quiet/stick to status quo. So the word can describe simply a fact that people's freedom of perspective, creative options, compatibilities, needs and preferences vary and fluctuate throughout a population and throughout an individual's lifetime. How you're using "nihilism" is too generalized and vague to be useful. What are you saying is happening that you are concerned with? What are you meaning by "nihilistic lifestyle"?

You have to be very disciplined to be 100% free software and gnu/linux/bsd and NOT be bogged down in the weeds of config and troubleshooting. In principle it's great, but maybe valuing your time and psych is also an important principle.

I looked up something about Linux Kernal into the Youtube search, and I watched your video on that. It was spectacular. I then went to your channel to see what else you covered regarding Linux. I saw this video and was intrigued by the title. I deleted Spotify at some point because I hated some things about it politically. I switched to Deezer. I used Deezer for months, but the music library was lacking greatly. I switched back to Spotify because I actually love how they are more spot on with the AI regarding music choice and such.

I am curious why that is such a bad thing even if you want to define it as, "social media for music" or "it's designed to keep you doing it more." It's music. I don't have social media, but I do use Spotify and youtube to help me study, to help me stay motivated, or to help me cope with life. If the algorithm gets me sucked in more, why is that bad? Music is art, it makes the world go round second to money, it is universal, it is timeless, it doesn't care what language you speak or where you are from.

Music isn't antisocial and you cannot say it makes all people antisocial. That is just your opinion you are stating as if it was fact. It can bring people together. History has shown that. I created a group of people who like a certain genre of music and people from around the world actually met up with each other and found new friends-- that is not anti-social. People go to concerts with friends or meet new friends at concerts.

Too much of ANYTHING can be a bad thing. How you use ANYTHING can be good or bad. Everything is relative. It is as you said, "you have to use it constructively".

It's no wonder you are creating nihilists. You have such a negative opinion on one of the only things that the entire world can sometimes come together on. You cannot blame music because of anecdotal experiences from the people in your life. People your age are probably going through some really tough and confusing times, many have gone through some horrible personal experiences. Music is a coping mechanism, it is a way to get through a day, or get through life. It helps us get through the fucking times. Maybe instead of casting judgment ask someone how they are doing or what they are listening to, ask them WHY they are listening to a certain track or something. You'll learn a lot that way.

For someone who claims to write music, you have an awfully toxic view of it, which leads me to wonder if you write anything meaningful or is it all full of judgment and negativity? I get that watching videos all day seems lazy, but there are people who not only post educational content, but who watch educational content. You need to define a line. People who literally do nothing BUT watch youtube videos all day, yeah, that is no life. You were overly general, and nothing is that simple. There are so many people watching educational videos(like your Linux video) at the end of their work day to study, to learn, or just to grow. You are young, maybe those around you are just not on your level. You seem to be at a higher level than those your age to some degree. There may come a day 10 years from now (or sooner) that you realize your message does fuel minds vulnerable to nihilism.

You don't want people looking up to these AI, algorithms, social media, or anything that absolutely has potential to hurt us mentally. So, I hear you, but not all technology is bad, any of it can be used to the benefit of society and self. The same drugs that can be used to save a life can also be used to kill someone.

Misinformation. Spotify is first NOT run by Facebook. Second it also offers audiobooks and podcasts as well as music. Do better research.

Don't feel guilty for human nature. There do be sheep out there. They usually have the same faculties and abilities to be less nhilist or narcissistic as anyone else. Why feel guilty? Why put chains on your actions? You made them; you did these videos all of them for YOU? Is that wrong? Or did you WANT to be an influencer? Sheep will figure it out or continue being sheep. Go figure. (Am perfectly aware of the society we live in, yeah yeah I'ma sheep too. There is obviously levels to awareness") If you start allowing the audience to dictate your actions or responses then what? If people can't be bothered to go out and touch grass and experience more than Linux that's their problem.

Also if someone spends an obssesive amount of time as you say learning all of this and become a sysadmin? Or they use the skills to do something great with it... That's a positive... Can it hurt your life? Yeah I mean... I THINK of many scenes from serial experiments lain as an example.

You should measure twice everything that you intake. Follow your own damn will and life path. And again; there's lots of sheep. This is how society has often been. Socrates I believe said something like society is built upon the backs of individuals. And also that civilization is a race between education and destruction.

"Am I any better than a Reddit fact checker? No." Indeed, No. Spotify is not run by facebook, and doesn't operate the way you describe. I like the sentiment of this rant, tho, but satire (if you'd made the satire thing) and/or commentary needs to know the enemy to skewer the enemy. You have a voice and audience, it seems. "Don't Look Up to Me" got me to click and it was the interesting, most valuable message you got to eventually, showing that you do care about your audience and don't want them to misunderstand you. Put a little more effort in to focus and factcheck your message.
