Finally someone who drives sensibly while towing, with a Tacoma, no 5-6K rpms, etc, I been towing 9 yrs with mine, and get around 13-14 mpg towing a 3, 000 lb Casita 17 ft travel trailer.

Thanks for posting. Helpful info and solid set-up. Also, good to see someone taking it easy on the speed when towing.

Finally someone gets it ! Thank you for the details and a good video of your truck attached to the Winn-mini 21..
Love your camper. I mean you even show grades.. Thank you. Tacoma great truck but I getting out of our Explorer into a full size F150 2.7 You should mention you have the A/C on as well; I’d imagine since it’s 81 outside.

Thank you for this valuable data.
I have my 2019 TRD off road and have been researching for a few years to find out how it is to tow a trailer and the sweet spot for weight . There are barely any videos on this until I found your video. Thanks again.

Greatful you have this video posted. I have a 2017 Tacoma TRD PRO and in the process of buying a 2100BH Micro Minnie too. The truck and camper looks awesome!

Glad you put this video up. I bought my 2018 Tacoma as a work truck, because you can’t reach into the beds of any of the 1/2 ton truck. I haven’t pulled with it yet, but I’ve put in a proportional brake controller, etc. I planned to use it as my backup tow vehicle. I have a beefed up 05 ram 1500 I pull the horse trailer with. Two horses and loaded weigh about 4500. I’ve seen 3rd Gen Tacoma’s cruising up and down interstates in my area pulling campers and horse trailers loaded at 65 mph on moderately hilly terrain. They seem to do the job. So when 4.7 ram blows, I’m not replacing it. Looks like I’ll be pulling with the Tacoma😁

Great video, wish Toyota would consider a diesel in these like their hilux models oversees.👍 I have a 19’ taco MT6 and looking at the 1800BH.

Thanks for the great video. This gen Tacoma and a light travel trailer have all been on my mind. I have been wondering could this Tacoma handle at a steep mountain road. I am thinking of getting the Lance 1575 (Dry 2700lbm and 3, 300 lbs loaded) and a family of four (all passengers combine weight be like < 350 lbs). This video proves that the Tacoma can handle what I am looking for.

Sir, thank you for posting this. I'm in a similar similar situation where I'm considering purchasing an enclosed v-nose trailer in the range of 5x8-6x10 and need it to do 300 miles interstate similar to your trip. I don't expect to be above 3, 000lb often. Seeing all the data from MPG, MPH, RPM, and Grade along with S4+ECT as the manual recommends is reassuring.

Love the fact you climbed the Grapevine then got into LA traffic. You were at 96 degrees when you left Kern very impressed! You gave me hope for my 17’ pro!

When I haul 51, 000 lbs in my big truck going up hill I’m doing about 25 miles an hour so don’t rush take it slow if you want to rush then buy a bigger truck

That's really impressive, what are you averaging on normal mpg not towing

I bought a 19 TRD Off-road 6 sp. manual and I towed my 2300 lb dump trailer around with only 60 miles on my truck or less... it doesn't like taking of up hill but it loves anything else..

I think just keep it in Drive with the ETC on. If the truck is able to shift into a higher gear for more economical driving, let it do so. If the struggle becomes too much, then it will downshift on its own.

Hey I love your set up! I’m in the market for a trailer. I have a 17’ Pro, I would love to ask your opinion on your set up!
Outstanding video by the way!! Very informative!!

lmao @ the family innocently making fun of dad when that probably what made this trip possible for them. :) Being a father sometimes is so much about lettings things be than it is about not letting things happen.
