A Mooresville mom-to-be says the headrest in her Dodge Caravan activated, without explanation. When she investigated the issue and cost to repair, she was told it’s on her. She decided to “Get McGinty” to make things right and help warn other drivers about what she says is a danger.

Same thing happened to our passenger headrest! Dodge dealer told us it'll be $900 to fix. I think a recall needs to be put out by Dodge.

Ours did it too. The plastic tabs inside break under the constant load of the heavy springs. The retention tabs should absolutely be made of metal. Serious and dangerous design flaw.

Mine just did this yesterday. Horrible design. There should be a recall!

Maybe everyone should get together and file a class action lawsuit because this just happened to my durango and it's happening to a lot of people and they know it's an issue but still won't do a recall.

My wife sustained very severe injurys during a deployment wile driving down the road casually at 35mph with no accident. Her head was looking left to the back seats and deployed only maybe an inch or less away. Could have broke her neck. It pained me deeply to watch this happen to her and to see how much pain she's in still and will be in for the rest of her life :(

I really hoping and praying that after this NHTSA and FCA will step up and recall these headrests.

How do I get Chrysler to replace my broken passenger headrest. It deployed just as this article described.

Mine did this and I didn’t know what happened, $900 to get it fixed even though it’s clearly a defect is ridiculous

BOTH of my headrests have deployed with no reason. Trying to fix it myself, found the same - ridiculous cost! Then plastic piece that holds onto the pin to keep the mechanism closed wears out and breaks, and the headrest pops. Thank goodness no one was in either seat when they popped! I cannot believe #Chystler does not have a recall for this! Ironically, when looking at salvage yards for a cheaper alternative, I found other vehicles that we're totaled, front end smashed, air bags deployed, yet the headrests hadn't deployed. Huh. Seems like these things are faulty from A to Z!

This happened to me! I’m glad I searched google and found this! I didn’t know what happened to my passenger side headrest! I don’t have 900.00 to fix it! Omg!!!

"no unreasonable risk of injury"...Why are there so many stories of people being injured by this system? Chrysler and Ford are the WORST for lying about problems with their vehicles!

That is a Chrysler product for you, buy a Toyota or a Honda and you will never worry.

Dodge has extended the warranty on this 10 years and I just got my headrest replaced at no charge from the dealer 2-23-22. Check with your dealer first!

My 2013 Dodge caravan just when you think everything's fixed this crap happens. Do we really need to be this safe with a headrest that deploys. If you're in that bad of an accident just having a headrest will help don't make it so fancy Dodge

This happened to me while parked in my 2013 Dodge Avenger on June 12th 2019. I was blessed I was parked. Chrysler said they accepted responsibility, and that the passenger wouldn’t do it that we were safe. It just abruptly deployed on the passenger side striking my fiancé in the back of the head TODAY!

I just found out about this. Mine deployed and I had no clue what it was like that when I went out to the van. I tried pushing it back togehter but it just popped back out. Why was I never contacted for this class action lawsuit? No way would I pay 900 for this.

I just got a letter from FCA saying they are extending my warranty on this part to 10 years and unlimited miles. So I started to search on the internet to see what the deal was. And I read many accounts of this happening while driving. FCA states in its letter that we may "EXPERIENCE INADVERTENT DEPLOYMENT". They are not denying it. There are other videos online of these things going off while driving. I cannot imagine it not causing major accidents and or severe neck injuries. Does anyone know if the zip ties work? Or if there is a fuse you can pull that will deactivate it? It is crazy that a company can say you may "EXPERIENCE INADVERTENT DEPLOYMENT" - and there isn't a recall. It is not just crazy, its infuriating. Until I find a way to make it safe, I cannot let my wife or kids drive it.
