We get asked a lot why it seems like Nintendo has endless resources to promote Donkey Kong Country Returns HD these days. Here are some thoughts on it and some explanations for why it's not exactly how it might seem as Nintendo is stuck between the original Switch and the Switch 2 at the moment.

They’re pushing it so hard to bring more awareness to Donkey Kong so people visit the new park this summer 💰 it’s all about synergy.

Tropical Freeze exists on the system and this is a $60 port of a Wii game in the final year of Switch. Not sure what they expected tbh

As an above average casual gamer, the only time ive seen this game was the Nintendo Direct

A reason we could point why donkey Kong country returns HD kind of underperformed is the fact it is $60 for a bear bones HD port of a 10+ year old game. They are overcharging on legacy ports and it’s just too expensive to keep buying them.

Great insight! This is why you and Krysta are so valuable in the Nintendo community! I really learn how are some things are run behind the scenes.

I have been seeing ads on youtube for both Donkey Kong and Xenblade X. Then you do have that ad that scrolls through some games and the only ones it shows is Mario Wonder and Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

What I don't understand is why Nintendo never followed these games up with Switch sequels. I get that Retro Studios are working Metroid still, but you'd think they'd want to keep the momentum going with this series.

Donkey Kong will get a new game after DKC Returns 100th release.

Donkey Kong Country Returns is a great game, but this port also just doesn't have the usual Nintendo level of polish. I _was not_ impressed by the demo's intro pausing at regular intervals and the game freezing up while it loaded certain areas. Besides, I'm saving my money for Metroid Prime 4 when that finally releases. I'll happily shell out $60 for Metroid, but not this quick and dirty Unity port of DK.

I'd assume many people skipped out on it because the port itself is pretty bad for something having the "Nintendo Seal of Quality."
This is a Wii re-release and should be constant 60fps no matter what, which it isn't.
Plus, missing graphical effects, some textures looking worse than the original, and the $60 price tag.

I feel like one reason this game even exists is to push the same environment that the DK world at Universal Studios has

Nintendo could slide into my DMs and say to me "Have you heard about Donkey Kong Country Returns HD?"

The problem with rereleases is the older I get more likely I am to just have an old game lying around that I didn't finish

We need a Donkey Kong 64 remake so badly 😭

I find the "underperformed" in the past tense odd, since I personally plan to pick up (this version of) this game at some point in the future still. It's not at the top of my list, but it's on there.

I mean at the end of the day isn’t this game over 15 years old now at this point? Or like at least 10 years Lol. And another version was already on 3DS or Wii u if I recall? They’re getting the last few drops of sales out the game I think for sure lmao
