In this video, we go through the reasons fan-favorite Edd China left the popular Discovery Channel show "Wheeler Dealers." He was the knowledgeable mechanic who fixed and restored cars that were later sold by Mike Brewer for a profit. He was on the show from the beginning until 2017 when he suddenly vanished and was replaced by Ant Anstead. You WON'T believe the drama that went down between these two!

From this separation of Mike and Ed, we got Ed’s workshop diaries. This gives Ed freedom to do exactly what he loves doing. There’s no one chasing around and buying cars. It’s just Ed maintaining and restoring vehicles and that suits me. Ed is great to watch and his YouTube channel is a must follow.

One of the biggest mistakes on Wheeler Dealers was moving to the U.S. A big part of the show was watching Edd work on cars that we don't see in the states. If we wanted to watch someone work on a 66Chevy, we go to a local garage and see that. Glad to see Edd and Paul on You Tube.

As a non-engineer the show was for me the detail that Edd demonstrated and always increased my knowledge. He was the star of the show. To me Mike was the comedy add-on.

I never liked Brewer much from the start but loved the workshop coverage and Edds skills as a top mechanic. My father was a mechanic and taught me how to use tools properly and how to do home DIY mechanics. It is a highly skilled trade and Brewer didn't like it that Edd was really the star. Let's face it Brewer is a car salesman with a little practical knowledge of mechanics. Edd is a highly skilled man. Edd was "wheeler Dealers" in my opinion.

When Wheeler Dealers started, it was heavily focussed on Mike Brewer buying and selling the cars, with a minor role for Edd China as the mechanic doing simple repairs. Over the seasons the show shifted to more complicated repairs and thus more focus on Edd. That didn't sit too well with Mike, but as this formula proved highly profitable, giving him as the creator and owner more profit, Mike went along with it.
Then they moved to the US and Mike sold the rights to the show to US investors, those investors immediately wanted what US investors always want: cut costs to improve profit, no holds barred. So basically Edd's input got reduced to simple repairs and the focus returned to Mike buying and selling cars. Edd believed that went contrary to what the fanbase expected from the show and resigned.

Nothing destroys a show quite like a "focus group" driven production company.

Wheeler Dealers used to be my favorite show, not just car show. I set it up to record every segment so I could better manage my entertainment. It was the Tall Man’s expertise that made the show such a success, more than that really. I learned so much that I didn’t know, like watching a professor teach a course. I remember the Mini that Brewer brought him. It was a pile of rust, just junk. When Ed finished it, it would be the pride of anyones garage. Then when Ed left the show, it just wasn’t worth watching. It was not Mike Brewer that made the show, it was Ed China that everyone wanted to see. Good luck in the future Ed

The new production company have to take the blame for destroying one of the best car shows ever made.
Ed's workshop scenes were the main reason for watching the show, and the interaction between him and
Mike made the show a great success, yes you could replace either of them, but you can't replace the
magic that made the show so good.
After Ed left i tried watching the next series, but it was as flat as a pancake, the magic had gone.
RIP Wheeler Dealers.

There are three important parts to this.
1. The company that bought out the show DID INDEED make plans to cut down the workshop side of the programme - So Edd was 100% Right - And He is indeed entitled to refer to this as a perfectly valid Negative Force that undermined his content and was key to his decision to Leave.
2. The comments made by Edd are very respectful of Mike.
In Fact I have not seen ONE Slur or ONE Snide comment from Edd. He retains 100% Integrity and Civility on this matter.
Well Done Edd.
3. I have seen clips of Mike Slagging off Edd - Mike referred to an "order" he gave to Edd that a certain Car Engine "MUST Be Removed" whilst Mike said that Edd did not agree, & that the Engine did not need to be removed to resolve whatever mechanical issue was the problem - Mikes response was "Sorry - You are WRONG, That engine NEEDS to come out!" - That STINKS of Arogant Superiority.
Also - Mike was recorded to have said words to the effect that "Edd was a traitor to the show and Let Everyone Down" - Again, NOT Civil or Polite.
So -
To summarise, The company was to blame for its changes, & Mike Behaved BADLY.
So Edd Left.
Simple enough :-)

Edd's workshop skills were what truly made the show. I hope he does something similar and he was right to stick to his principles.

For me Ed’s part in the show was the backbone of the production! Going into intricate detail of parts and modification! Both lads had equal charisma and the combination worked it had a British feel about it! Especially when filmed in the UK! Stop watching it because I thought it lost its charm!😢 but still enjoy reruns.❤️👍

It's easy. The whole show is heavily scripted.
Edd at least is showing his raw talent, explains stuff into detail and sounds genuine.
Mike is so over the top in everything he's doing. He is annoyingly faking everything he is doing in the show. I always FF when his part is on.

On the very day and at the very same time that I was watching the first episode of the new series of Wheeler Dealers WITHOUT Mr China, my TV went up in flames! I decided not to bother replacing it. Have just lived with Youtube ever since.
Long live Ed, his standard of work and advice is always spot on.

Ed came out of this with dignity and can hold his up high, and without a massive chip on his shoulder like Mike, who has revealed himself to be no more than the goby second hand car salesman he always was. Good luck Ed.

When Edd departed the show at that moment the show died, it was unbearable and very annoying to watch it. Edd's YouTube channel is great, and it's a must for any car enthusiast.
