Removable inserts are inserts that are molded into the part with the intention to remove after molding to achieve a feature such as an under cut or thread in the part that cannot be achieved without moving features in the mold such as slides, collapsible cores or unscrewing mechanisms to automatically remove threaded inserts from the part during ejection. Hand-loaded inserts are typically used in low volume molding to reduce the cost of automating the tooling with slides or automatic unscrewing mechanisms.
