What is NatHERS and how does it work?

The Nationwide Home Energy Rating Scheme uses software to determine a home's energy efficiency and rates it between 0-10 to determine if it meets the minimum compliance targets set by BASIX and the National Construction Code. The more stars, the more efficient the home. Using CSIRO’s historical climate data, the software determines how much artificial heating and cooling is required to keep the home comfortable, taking into consideration the home's design, location, orientation, type of building materials, windows and more.
