I almost wonder if Imu has the water fruit logia or even a water god Zoan. It would make sense that basically a water world would be ruled over by a water fruit user. That could explain the calm belt since if Imu is immortal they would have so much time to develope the use of that fruit and change ocean currents to divide the world beyond being split in half by the red line. It would also be the opposite of joyboy bringing the world together by divide and conquer

I think it would be cool if Imu is responsible for what happens to df users when they're in the sea. Then w out Imu the df users could be fine in the water. Maybe Imu used their power on the sea to both weaken df users, and to make it more difficult to travel the sea. To keep the islands of the world more isolated and to keep all of the people more fragmented. That would make sense to me. And only the bravest df users could go around

Quick theory: 3 powers loop theory.
In every generation, there has to be 3 powers. An evil one (like Blackbeard or Rocks), a free one (like Roger or Luffy), and a marine (like Garp or Koby).
The free one and the marine have to team up to defeat the evil one (shown with Roger and Garp Vs Rocks) so in the final saga Luffy and Koby will team up to defeat Blackbeard.
This can also provide Imu's backstory, because there were no marines in Joyboy's time, so he couldn't team up with a marine to defeat Imu, leading to Joyboy's defeat.
This can also tie into the concept of fate and destiny, while showing that history repeats itself.
It could also mean that the reason Roger and Garp didn't beat Imu was because they were there at the wrong time and the One Piece wasn't there yet.
The fact that Garp and Koby are here could mean they can take out both Blackbeard AND Imu in this generation.

So I know everyone theorizes that imu is Luffys mom, but what if she is instead Shanks mother and that explains why shanks can meet the gorosei without problems. Also it ties really pretty with the theory in this video. That IMU comes from the west sea and God valley.
