Student training aid for the connections required to wire a lighting circuit using the 3 plate loop-in method. Video explains the connection required within the ceiling rose, one way switch and two way switches. The circuit is wired in twin and CPC cables (twin and earth cable) and 3 core and CPC cable. This video will show learners how to connect up a ceiling rose and pendant and light switches

How to wire up a ceiling rose and pendant and light switches using this wiring diagram.

When I was young 😇 Always thought every house had the 2 plate method. Nicely explained. Every house I’ve wired has the 2 plate method. Especially now a days, smart switches requires a neutral to the switch. Again nicely and clearly explained 👍🏼

Another clear and concise video explaining what seems more complicated than it really is. Thank you

Hi
I am so glad that you published this video. I had a ceiling rose with a loose connection, after turning off the light switch I then started to disconnect the ceiling rose, it gave me a "bit of a jolt" and I ended up, on the floor, with a ceiling rose in my hand and a lot of loose wires hanging from the ceiling. Without your video I wouldn't have had a clue how to fix it, but now I am the owner of a ceiling with a nice new light that works and no loose connection's 😁💡😁💡😁💡😁
P. S. I would like to point out that I am a chef and not an electrician.
Thanks again for the video. Steve T

Perfect! I always wished for wiring "drawings/examples"" for lights to come with switches wiring - this video is much nicer than any of my drawings I made for remembering the steup. Thank you GSH. Top class!

Thanks for the video, just what I needed! I have pre 2004 wires in my house, and I’m about to change a ceiling rose as explained by yourself. How do I know which wire is in, out and the switching line? Or does it matter? Thanks

hi, great video but you said for the hypothetical next room the supply out line will go into loop terminal ? im a little confused as to what will power the next light if you put the line in the loop rather than line terminal, thanks

In New Zealand 3 plating is considered a bit of a short cut. It uses slightly less cable than feeding the switches but it leaves a live feed at the light even with the switch off which is a danger to a home owner giving electrical work a try. It also means the whole circuit has to isolated to work on the fitting rather than taping the switch or putting the switched wire in a connector.

My old light setup was like the one in this picture but the new light fixture has the earth connection on the centre hole with then 2 others for L and N. Would the looping wires (from the ceiling) go to the center hole connector where the earth is or would I put the live looping with the live wire in the one hole then the neutral looping in the neutral hole with the neutral wire?

I have a light that has a single 2 core +E cable leading to light...

What really confuses me, is that it is a 2-way light switch that operates two conventional ceiling lights, and only the one with the single cable will turn on.

I'm I correct to assume that there must be a junction box in the loft?

Brilliant video
If you have supply in supply out and switch drop cables hanging from the ceiling.
How can you tell the difference between supply out and switch drop?

I got electrocuted by supply in so I know which one that is 😂
