Once you dig into the background and unstated parts a little bit, BLAME! becomes a story about "what happens when buildings don't need us anymore?" and I think that's such a delightfully terrifying concept.

'a connection of feeling being insignificant, vulnerable and very lost'.
I find it funny then realising that's because I find it relatable

Tsutomu Nihei is so talented. I’ve always admired his creature design, particularly in Abara, but never really stopped and appreciated his skill in architecture until now.

Discovering Tsutomu Nihei during uni kept me going as an architecture student. Like you’ve explained, the way he uses intangible architectural elements in his story is truly inspirational.

BLAME! is genuinely my favorite manga/movie. the architecture, character design, and backstories are so interesting to look at. in the movie, instead of focusing on killy, they focus on zuru and tae (as well as the village). when you look at the bigger picture, its quite incredible. killy has been through 6000+ levels and this village is just one of possibly many more he has encountered. ive always been fascinated by robots and mechanical stuff, especially when it comes to the safeguards. god its incredible!!

I've always been interested in architecture since I was a teen, though I never got to study it. But I'm glad I've discovered the manga earlier this year, I hope to finish it someday

You should totally do one of these on Girls Last Tour. I always found the world they were surviving in and the structure of it and how it plays into the story to be fascinating. I would love to know the potential reasoning behind some of these designs!

I love the architecture in this manga. I read all volumes in a few days during COVID lockdown. I would spend long moments staring at panels, just examining the buildings and backgrounds which were characters in themselves. You could imply so much of the history of that world with the environment details. So foreboding and beautiful despite nothing really happening in the image. I wish there was more media from this IP. Netflix never continued the OVA CG series (I know it isn't good, but I will take it over nothing). And the shorts are cool and abstract but I want more.
