The Bambu Lab filament spools are all refillable

Hoping more companies will agree to create refill spools for this size so we don't end up with a lot of useless empty3D printer filament spools.

Esun transparent spools are also refillable and has been for years. The two sides are held together by two M6 screws.

Because it's a proprietary system which creates dependence on the printer company. Unless someone creates an open-source system which everyone adopts, most people don't want to be locked in.

For example the XYZ uses the tagging system for their filament. But the problem is that you have to use only theirs overpriced filament.

The new Fiberlogy spool is refillable too. And not as wide. And uses less plastic. Honestly I have no idea what they were thinking with their original doughnut design.

Tbh I really like this. An even if any filament manufacture has is own it's still a win, most of the time we have our favorite brands so at least colors often use can be refill. Small steps can be huge in the end.

Yes, Bambu Lab allows other filaments but who can say if that will stay this way?

Sadly Bambu Lab (at least where I live) only sells 3 refill colors which makes the system pretty much obsolete and I don't know what to do with all of these empty spools

Can you use your own rfid tags to fill information in?

Is it possible to buy them outside and program them to tell the printer what colour it is and the weight. So even if you have a different colour loaded you can reprogramme it.

Creality and Anycubic has done it too... hopefully there will be an open source version soon because NONE of them are cross compatible 😢

Ultimaker also use Tags, but I don't think they're compatible with other brands 😕

You can buy new filament for empty spools from Bambulab

Prusa has been doing this for longer than bambu has, just without the NFC thing. (Which is good in my opinion. I don't want companies tracking my spool usage)
