The Backwards Long Jump glitch (BLJ) is the most infamous speedrun glitch in Super Mario 64. But where did it come from? Does it still work in Super Mario 3D All Stars? How has the BLJ evolved over the years?

Hey everyone. I’d like to thank you all for the support lately. It’s blown me away and we’re about to hit 10k subs soon, which is INSANE. Again, thank you! Next vid will cover 3D All Stars speedruns (including Sunshine and Galaxy) so look forward to that! Been busy with midterm exams so I apologize for making y’all wait.

To Nintendo's credit, they unknowingly patched out a glitch despite there being zero knowledge of it in the Japanese gaming community.

Extremely high quality for such a small channel! Half the creators with millions of subs probably don’t spend as much time on videos as you looking at the quality of this masterpiece, I loved every bit of this! I’m excited to see what’s next. Also there was a lot of new information that I never knew so that was cool too.

This may go viral hopefully

edit/addon: Why isnt 50 star a speedrun category or 30 star or even 1 key(this one seems unlikely unless a new strat is found or a tas category or something)?
i think it could be viable for runners to have some shorter but funner runs

As a kid, I practiced the BLJ glitch as hard as I could after first seeing it online. Mastering it is extremely satisfying.

Some scans of the December '96 Japanese "Super Mario 64 Complete Clear Guide Book" came out today, and you can see on page 135 a clear documentation of the use of the BLJ to skip the endless staircase! I know the internet wasn't widespread back then but its amazing how long this trick flew under the consciousness of (particularly) westerners given how long it was known about, given its usefulness and eventual infamy.

I love how J talks about the BLJ like a super saiyan transformation. A Technique one person used only talked of before in some sort of informational story or scripture, and others followed after them to discover the technique, but few could master the technique and even expand on it.

It’s amazing how such a powerful game-breaking asset to the speed runner toolkit was added because someone forgot to add a speed cap for the backwards long jump

Man, this video is really great, any Mario or speedrunning fan should watch this! I was hoping someone would make a video about the history of BLJs, and this video did not disappoint! The fun fact about the Japanese name for BLJs was also hilarious. Looking forward to more from your channel!

Makes me curious as to why those 2 brothers were randomly trying to back jump up the stairs in the first place 😂
