We paid a gas stove-top repair person more than $100 to try to fix the clicking. He couldn’t do it. He said it couldn’t be done. We watched your video and cleaned the ceramic sparkers, and VOILA!! the clicking is gone! What a simple thing...clean the stove using your method. Thanks a lot, the clicking on all 4 burners was driving us crazy!!

Relief to know cleaning was an option. My stove is a Samsung and only 1 YEAR old. I only use one burner and the igniter acting up was on a rear unused burner. When adequate time passed after cleaning and it still clicked I decided to allow it to just click-away while I stuck dinner in the oven. After about 15 minutes it changed from the rapid fire clicking to a slower blinker paced click and then even slower to a click- long pause -click - long pause -click pace and then, stopped. Just like that. Temperamental like a two year old I decided - sometime you have to just let them cry it out. But gas appliances can be fearful when malfunctioning so this video was a huge relief! Thanks so much!

Happened on our GE 5 burner cooktop. Dirty igniter can sure cause this, but so can another issue. Clogged gas jets.

What stops the igniter from clicking is contact with flame after the burner is lit. If it looses flame contact, it tries to re-light that burner. Look close, especially on the lowest flame setting, and see if the flame is 'reaching' the igniter tip. ALL 5 igniters pop will pop even when you just turn on one burner (normal)....but it they keep popping with just one burner on, most likely THAT is the one you have a problem with.

What was happening on ours was a clogged gas jet on just one burner....unfortunately the larger burner in the stove center we use a lot. Our model has two jets per burner....a main jet in the center, then a 'simmer' jet to the side. You don't need to do this, but I took all the burners completely out and removed the whole stainless top, and insulation board to expose the inner workings of the top....from the control knob of each burner, there are 2 gas lines...one about 1/4" or so to the main jet, and one about 1/8" to the simmer jet.

You just have to remove the flat diffuser plate on the burner causing the problem, then remove the burner ring with the slots (where the gas comes out)....both just lift off.

Then look down into the hole in the center, that is the main jet. The simmer jet looks similar to the main (brass 7mm nut with a hole in the center), but is off to the top or bottom side of the ring mounted to the cooktop. The simmer jet has a REALLY TINY hole...I had to remove the jet (7mm socket) and use a sewing needle to clear it. Hold it up to a light you can't see a tiny amount of light coming thru the center hole, it's reaming with the needle.

Once I got it cleared out, reinstalled, and the other parts back on, I turned on that burner on, dialed it to lowest setting, and could see flame (coming from gas out of the simmer jet) poking out of the burner, making contact with the igniter. End of problem.

Two minute fix. Worked like a champ and all I did was wipe out the solids.

I have had this problem for a long time.  Trolling the internet, I got all kinds of info (Some people shouldn't have been offering advice!). I did take apart the top and clean it.  This made it damp so none of the burners lit.  Drying with the hair dryer did the trick but there was still an annoying clicking noise.  Using alcohol on a q-tip, I cleaned the igniters and one had some kind of orange deposit that looked like rust.  Now everything is running perfectly.  It was such a simple and cheap solution.  I am very happy.  Thank you!

My stove was clicking, after read this You Tube. I cleaned the burner with cooking wine ( because i do not have any thing else) and a tooth brush. Still not working, I turn on the burner and let it on for 3 minutes, while waiting I cleaned the dial with wine. Now it work!!!! completely stopped the clicking. Thanks for sharing this video.

In these troubling times you have restored my faith in humanity... This video was extremely helpful. Love the ending too.

Thank you for posting!!! The DCS burners appear to be the same as those on my GE Monogram. I used sandpaper to clean the both the burner outside surface and the simmer slot on the burner near the ignitor and then used rubbing alcohol. A butane lighter helps evaporate any moisture remaining. I think ignition occurs where the gas is emitted from the simmer slot, so it is important to keep this clean near the ignitor for the burner to light. I believe the flame from the simmer slot also heats the sensor in the electrode which tells the stove that there is a flame and to stop the ignitor from sparking.

By carefully following your instructions, I fixed my gas stove top, which just started sparking tonight. Thank you for this wonderful video!

THANKS a lot for posting this. I just finished cleaning my cooktop (it really needed it) and one of the ignitors wouldn't stop clicking. Thanks to your statement that the ignitors MUST be dry, I took a 2nd look the trouble ignitor and noticed it still was a little wet from my cleaning job. GREAT advice.

Thanks for all the tips - In my case the center burner would click if a large based pan was put over it - Click the whole time, while cooking!! I figured it had to do with the igniter not sensing it was lit, so i put two nickels under each side the top grate. That seemed to give it just enough clearance to sense the gas was on properly - Hope this helps someone - Was driving me nuts (Clicking every time I cooked a meal)

one additional item to clean, which finally solved my problem. Take off the 3rd piece of metal by removing the 1-1/16" brass nut first. Clean it and especially the very small simmer holes, using a needle and/or compressed air.

My stove started clicking suddenly yesterday.  The ignitors taking turns clicking.  I dried with the hair dryer like you suggested and then followed with the rubbing alchohol.  Worked like a so much

Fantastic! We had 4 of the 5 burners continue clicking after igniting. We didn't think this was going to work because the igniters looked clean so we just used a cotton swab with alcohol to wipe each starter and that fixed the problem. Thanks!

Perfect! Most people buying these stoves have no concept of basic maintenance. Frustrating to hear all the negativity based on something that is easily fixed.

Thanks for the explanation. We just moved into a 20 year old house and I am sure they were never cleaned. It is only happening on 1 burner and now 1 is not igniting at all and it is probably for the same reason.

My stove was clicking too. I couldn't unplug it because it was too hard to pull out from the wall.  I cleaned the burners and then shut the top and punched the stove. It slowed, then stopped. Thanks for the advice!  Punching works!

Thanks for the video.  I'm going in to try this right now!  Q tips, brass brush, windex and alcohol.  I have a lot of work to do to get my cooktop as clean as yours.

I cleaned around the ignitor on my dcs stove top, and it didn't solve the problem. I then removed the brass nut under the burner, which holds down the simmer burner. Several holes around the burner were plugged, especially the one lined up with the ignitor. I cleaned them with a toothpick, and now it works as intended!! No more clicking, and the simmer works properly!  Hope this helps.

Thanks. I actually just wiped the igniters with a paper towel and it worked.
