Learn German Lesson 44 - Present Perfect 1 (Sentence structure) | Perfekt 1

In Lesson 44 you will learn about the “Present Perfect Tense”.
In this video, you will learn what the present perfect sentence in German is. This lesson is the first part where you will be learning how to build a simple sentence in past tense.
Learning objectives of this lesson are:
• Firstly, we will go through the different tenses in German.
• After that we will learn what is perfect.
• And lastly we will be learning how to form sentences in perfect.
At the end of the video you will find a table with the list of verbs and their perfect form that you will learn in this lesson. Additionally there is a small exercise at the end of the lesson.

I'm a student of A1. My teacher is a native German. In his class he only speaks in German. This lesson comes in Kapital 9 in Kursbuch. I can not tell you how confused I was in that class as I did not understand a single thing. Now here I am and everything is as clear as water. I just dont know how to thank you guys. Lots of love.

Present perfect tensse
Commonly used in the spoken language privet and half formal letters
Sentence structure (part 1), helping verbs (part 2), past participle (part 3)

Sentence structure
Ich esse einen salat = I am eating a salad (present)

Ich habe einen salat gegessen = I have eaten a salad (past)

Wir fahren nach paris = we are travelling to paris (present)

Wir sind letzte woche nach paris gefahren = last week we travelled to paris (past)

Er spielt mit seinem hund = he is playing with his dog (present)

Er hat mit seinem hund gespielt = he has played with his dog (past)

Sie studiert philosophie = she is studiying philosophy (present)

Sie hat philosophie studiert = she has studied philosophy (past)


Ich habe einen salat gegessen
Wir sind letzte woche nach paris gefahren

Hilfsverb (konjugiert) position 2nd (hilfsverb can either be sein/haben) (Habe, sind)
(Ich esse einen salat / wir fahren nach paris =I am eation a salad / we are treaveling to paris )In present tense the verbs are generelly in the 2nd position
But in perfect these verbs move towards the end of the sentence and also use partizip 2 (at end) (esssen =gegessen, fahren =gefahren)



W -Frage (hilfsverb 2nd pos.) (partizip-2 in ending)


Was hast du gestern gemacht?= what did you do yesterday?


Ja-nein-frage (hilfsverb 1st pos.) (partizip-2 in ending )

Hast du gestern etwas gegessen ? =did you eat something yesterday?



Mit trennbare verben =with separable verb

Tanja ruft ihren freund an = Tanja is calling up her boyfriend. (present) (Verb in 2nd pos.) (prefix in ending )
Tanja hat ihren freund angerufen. = tanja called up her boyfriend (past) (hilfsverb 2nd pos.) (partizip-2 in ending )


Mit modal verben =with model verbs (modalverb 2nd pos. präteritum form) (verb im infinitiv in ending)

Ich bin krank . Ich muss zum arzt gehen. =I am sick . I must go to the doctor
Ich war krank . Ich musste zum arzt gehen, = I was sick . I had to go to the doctor

Essen - hat gegessen
Fahren – ist gefahren
Spielen – hat gespielt
Studieren – hat studiert
Machen – hat gemacht
Anrufen – hat angerufen

If das Perfekt is present perfect, how come the question "Was hast du gestern gemacht?" is translated as "What did you do yesterday?"? Shouldn't it be "What have you done yesterday?"?
